Wu Qi, Professor of the Medical College of Tianjin University and leader of COVID-19 municipal medical treatment expert team, recently donated his salary to set up "Wu Qi Medical Scholarship".
This scholarship is to reward students who are admitted by the experimental class of emerging medical education at Tianjin University and are determined to take medicine and health as career. Each scholar winner of the first batch will be given 10,000 yuan every year.
“Medical and health care is a cause full of love that benefits all humankind. In the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, medical workers have demonstrated their professional strengths. Their professionalism comes from the pursuit of excellence in their medical career. These angles in white demonstrated the mission and responsibility of medical workers.” Said Professor Wu. He hoped that the medical scholarship could provide more resources for Tianjin University to cultivate top-notch innovative talents in the field of medical health.
Professor Wu Qi is a respiratory expert and has been in the frontlines of the fights against SARS and COVID-19. As an educator in the field of medicine, he put his enthusiasm for medical career into promoting the reform and development of higher medical education.
It is reported that Tianjin University set up an " Experimental Class of Emerging Medical Education" in 2020 to promote the integration and interdisciplinary development involving the relevant disciplines of medicine, science, and engineering as well as the construction of emerging medical education. Guided by major medical needs, this class follows the idea of “leading with medicine, supporting with engineering, transforming through innovation, and clinical demonstration”. Integrated artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, big data, robotics, and other cutting-edge technology, the experimental class has four distinctive and preponderant majors including clinical medicine, pharmacy, biomedical engineering, and intelligent medical engineering. Candidates are admitted under the broad categories. And their first academic year focuses on consolidating the foundation of mathematics, science, medicine, and engineering. Various majors are taken from the second academic year. Meanwhile, the class encourages major and minor courses in the major categories and thecut-through education for undergraduates and postgraduates, as well as promotes inter-major integration.
