Tianjin International Engineering Institute (TIEI) is affiliated with Tianjin University (TJU) and functions as an experimental platform for engineering talent cultivation, collaboratively established by Tianjin University, Polytech Nice-Sophia, and the Polytech Group from France. In 2022, TIEI partnered with Qiushi Honors College and Xuanhuai School to jointly create the School of Future Technology at Tianjin University. This initiative embodies the successful integration of advanced French engineering education with the emerging engineering education landscape in China, with the objective of nurturing engineers to become leaders in future technologies. The institute operates across two campuses of Tianjin University: Peiyang Park Campus and Weijin Road Campus.

Leveraging TJU’s engineering strengths and the educational resources of esteemed overseas universities, TIEI is committed to establishing Tianjin University as a world-class institution characterized by being “Comprehensive, Research-Oriented, Open, and International.” TIEI aims to further enhance Sino-foreign cooperative education and actively explore innovative models for developing internationally recognized engineering talent at the master’s level. The institute seeks to create a first-class engineering institute that is open and international, while cultivating global leaders in the engineering field who can address the needs of China's social and economic development and contribute to worldwide progress.

TIEI's facilities have consistently improved over the years. In 2017, TIEI primarily operated from the Weijin Road Campus of Tianjin University, relocating to the East Wing of No. 20 Teaching Building on the Weijin Road Campus in 2020. In 2023, TIEI will transition to No. 56 Teaching Building on the Peiyang Park Campus. Concurrently, students will have access to the platforms of the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship College, located at No. 25 Teaching Building on Weijin Road Campus and No. 47 Teaching Building on Peiyang Park Campus, to collaborate on innovation and entrepreneurship projects with enterprises. By that time, TIEI’s total operational area is anticipated to expand to 16,000 square meters.
