Dashu Gallery was established by Mr. Feng Jicai in 1993. The gallery collects Mr. Feng’s calligraphy works and culture treasures and it is also a forum for artists and intellectuals at home and abroad to gather and communicate. The atmosphere in the gallery is respectful and quiet, and friends here are very romantic and talented. After 1994, Mr. Feng devoted himself to urban historic and cultural protection and folk culture rescue. Therefore, the gallery has become a workshop to undertake this heavy task. 

The words "Dashu" (big tree) are from a story about General Feng Yi of the Han Dynasty, who is one ancestor of the Feng Family. He made great contributions to his country but didn’t seek a higher position or fame. When rewards were granted to the army generals, General Feng Yi would hide behind a big tree (dashu). Therefore, he gained the title “General Dashu”. Mr. Feng admired his ancestor for his creed of “working for his country instead of himself”, so named the gallery “Dashu Gallery”.

Bing Xin, the great literary writer, during her lifetime understood exactly the profound intention of Mr. Feng, and wrote “Dashu Gallery” for him.

In 2005, Feng Jicai Institute of Literature and Art was established and the Dashu Gallery was moved here as well. 

The Dashu Gallery displays more than 200 kinds of literary works, dozens of calligraphy and painting examples as well as a large number of rescued works of folk cultural heritage.
