Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education on Light Power was co-founded by the Internal combustion engine institute, the national key laboratory of engines and School of Mechanical Engineering of Tianjin University. It brings the internal combustion engine engineering research, industrialization and educational resources together to build a research platform for light power industry. This Center built the advanced design technology platform of light power products, special key technology research platform, high level light power inspection and testing platform, advanced testing instruments and equipment development platform and standard technology research platform. Based on the industry, the Center chooses common and key technology needed by dealing with regulations and leading the market as research direction, relies on special platform and research groups to carry out the research of special technology for engineering application, relies on the testing platform to offer product quality inspection and overseas certification services for the industry, relies on the industrialization platform to achieve the industrialization of technological achievements.
The Center has undertaken53 national and provincial scientific research subjects, over 430 enterprise commissioned topic and a large number of industry test projects, with total funds over 160 million Yuan. It has gained 2 provincial science and technology awards, 102 authorized patents and led formulating and publishing 12 light power standards.
Research direction of the Light Power Engineering Center:
(1)development and research of combustion control, emission control and alternative fuel combustion technology: carry out the research of electronic fuel injection technology, exhaust emission control technology, combustion control technology and combustion diagnostic technology; carry out the research of low and ultra-low emission advanced internal combustion engine, and develop and spread the advanced purification and closed purification technology of the internal combustion engine; carry out the development and research of clean fuel design technology and the combustion characteristics of new types of vehicle fuel including alcohol fuels, hydrogen fuels, LPG, CNG, DME, biomass fuels, etc.
(2) design and development of advanced engine, motorcycle, the relevant test equipment of internal combustion engine: for the purpose of designing, developing and promoting advanced internal combustion engine products, carry out the research of modern design technology, numerical simulation and calculation technology and new material application technology and continuously perfect the product design database; For the purpose of designing and developing advanced motorcycle products, carry out the research of the vehicle model design, the vehicle structure strength, noise vibration, reliability, and safety; design and develop the advanced relevant test equipment of internal combustion engine, vehicle testing equipment and component testing equipment.
(3) The construction of standard system: participate in the construction work of the international standards, national standards and industry standards of light power, a complete and scientific standard system.
