China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) held the 2022 annual meeting themed “Innovation China” on February 21. The attendees of the conference are Wan Gang, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and president of CAST, Zhang Yuzhuo, secretary of the leading Party members group of the CAST, vice president in charge of daily work and chief secretary of the Secretariat of CAST, Wang Xiaomo, co-chair of the Alliance “Innovation China" Advisory Committee and academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Zhou Ji, chairman of the “Innovation China”, former president of the CAE and academicianof the CAE, Jiang Xiaojuan, co-chair of the "Innovation China" Advisory Committee, etc.
At the conference, Wan Gang awarded certificates to the representative winners of the 24th CAST Qiushi Outstanding Youth Award. Including Prof. Ming Dong of Tianjin University (TJU), 10 young scientific and technological talents who have contributed significantly to the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, were commended.

Established in 1998, the award is set up for young scientific and technological workers across the country. It aims to commend and reward those who have made outstanding achievements in the field of national defense science and technology and the transformation of S&T achievements. The award is presented annually and consists of a practical engineering award and achievement transformation award. The former mainly rewards young S&T personnel who have made remarkable contributions in aerospace, information, biomedicine and other fields, especially in the field of national defense science and technology, with no more than 15 winners each year; The latter mainly rewards young scientific and technological personnel who have made outstanding achievements in the transformation of S&T achievements and serving the integration of science, technology and economy in enterprises, scientific research institutes and universities. These achievements need produce good benefits and have bright application prospects, and the winners of this award per year shall not exceed 10.
Ming Dong, professor of Tianjin University, is a national outstanding youth, one of the first batch of national excellent youth, a leading talent in scientific and technological innovation under the national Ten Thousand Talents Plan and an expert gaining the special allowance of the State Council.
To meet major national needs, he led a scientific research team to make a technological breakthrough in high-performance non-invasive brain-computer interface, achieved a number of important S&T achievements and obtained more than 100 patents for invention. His team has built a system of innovative achievements with complete independent intellectual property rights. Three core performance indicators of this technology have reached the highest international level. It has obtained a series of registration certificates for medical device, and has been successfully applied in high-performance human-computer interaction products in response to major tasks in medicine, aerospace and related fields. Two representative achievements have been listed in the national 13th Five-Year Plan S&T innovation achievement exhibition.
So far, 24 commendation activities for the CAST Qiushi Outstanding Youth Award have been successfully staged. It has played a positive role in mobilizing the development of innovative talents, promoting the emergence of young S&T talents so as to drive China's S&T undertakings and socio-economic development. Till today, more than 300 were selected as the practical engineering award winners, and most of them have become academic leaders in the field of national defense science and technology. Besides, over 140 were selected to be achievement transformation award winners, and many outstanding talents sprang up. Ma Weiming, Chen Zuoning, Deng Zhonghan, Pony Ma, and Robin Li were awarded the CAST Qiushi Outstanding Youth Award before.
