How does one implement the technological innovations and industrial applications of high-speed parallel robots? How does refined crystal technology of high-end pharmaceutical products promote the development of pharmaceutical products nationally? How does one efficiently reuse the waste products from the agricultural and forestry industry? How does one implement the design of low vibration and noise reduction of diesel engines? How does one apply safety technology for foundation pits during the construction of projects? Scientific researchers and professors from Tianjin University studied these problems and their achievements have won five National Science and Technology Awards.
On January 8, 2016, the news of five awards given to Tianjin University was announced at the 2015 National Science and Technology Awards Conference in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Tianjin University achievements included the National Science and Technology Progress Second Class Awards with one winning the National Science and Technological Invention Second Class Award. Four of the achievements were recommended by Tianjin City with two of these strongly supported by multiple major programs of the Natural Science Foundation of Tianjin and projects of the Science and Technology Planning of Tianjin.
Developing high-speed parallel robots in China with independent intellectual property rights has become a scientific obsession of Professor Huang Tian and his group from Tianjin University’s School of Mechanical Engineering. The research was supported by the National “863” Project and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Professor Huang Tian and his group solved the problems of structural innovation, control systems and equipment technology for high-speed parallel robots, and implemented the technological innovation and industry application. This achievement won the National Science and Technological Invention Second Class Award.
Professor Huang’s group developed a high-speed parallel structure – the Diamond Structure. Currently, the achievement has been applied by Tianjin Lishen Battery Joint-Stock Co., Ltd, Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical, Wahaha and Yunnan Anning Chemical Co., Ltd. These companies have established 33 automated production lines, earned an increase in sales of 497 million yuan with a profit increment of 136 million yuan. The Diamond Robot and its technology has been exported to United Kingdom and Russia. It was also elected twice as an “excellent exhibit” at the major national science and technology innovation exhibitions.
Solving the “Fog and Haze problem”; transforming the waste products of agricultural and forestry into resources
Since the mid-1980s, United States and Europe started the research of pyrolysis and gasification technology, but was beset with tar emission of contamination during the gasification process. Professor Chen Guanyi from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tianjin University cooperated with Shandong University to accomplish the project of “Key technology of clean gasification/poly-generation for agricultural and forestry waste”. This project exploded with new technology of “clean gasification/poly-generation”. In order to solve the difficult problem of tar emission during the gasification process, it also exploded the diversification practice of biomass gasification. This project went on to win the National Science and Technology Progress Second Class Awards.
The technological achievement has been applied in 17 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, and has captured a major market share in China. The total value of the output in the last three years was 1.027 billion yuan with a total profit increment of 169 million yuan. Meanwhile, the total recycle agricultural and forestry was 855 million tons. The achievement improved the environment, promoted the markets in the rural economy, and improved the economic profits of the companies.
Tianjin University’s contribution to the development of the national economy
During the conference, the “key technology, design, and application of low vibration and noise of diesel engine”, “development and the industrialization of refined crystal technology of high-end pharmaceutical products” and “the safety and precise control of Large-long-deep foundation pits and the new supporting technology and application of economical foundation pits” also won the National Science and Technology Progress Second Class Awards. The common feature of these projects served the construction of the national economy.
Professor Shu Gequn and his group from the School of Mechanical Engineering cooperated with Weichai Holding Group Co., Ltd and Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd to accomplish the “Key technology, design and application of diesel engines with low vibration and noise levels”. The technology reached an international advanced level, and the three dimensional composite vibration reduction control technology for crankshaft was regarded as foremost by international standards. The technology was applied to 1.78 million diesel engines in seven companies including Weichai and Yuchai; it also assisted the national internal-combustion engine manufacturing industry to develop their technology.
Professor Wang Jingkang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, professor of the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, led her group and cooperated with Shenzhen Huarun Jiuxin Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd, Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceutical Co.,Ltd., Xi’an Lijun Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd and the National Institutes for Food and Drug Control together to accomplish the achievement of “Development and Industrialization of refined crystal technology of high-end pharmaceutical products”. This achievement revealed the assembly mechanism of pharmaceutical crystal molecule, developed the sustainable crystallization purification process, integrated and innovated the process line of high-end pharmaceutical products, and advanced the technology, processing technology and equipment of crystallization. The total sales revenue in the last three years was 2.86 billion yuan with the total profit increment was 770 million yuan. Meanwhile, the total tax increment reached 350 Million Yuan, and foreign exchange of 250 Million US Dollar through exports.
Professor Zheng Gang from the School of Civil Engineering led his group and cooperated with the China Construction Sixth Engineering Division Corp, Ltd, Beijing Urban Construction Group CO., Ltd, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Guanglian Construction Development Corp, Ltd and China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd to accomplish “The safety and precise control of Large-long-deep foundation pits and the new supporting technology and application of economical foundation pits”. With more than ten years of studies on industry-academia-research and engineering practice, the researchers focused on Large-long-deep foundation pit projects under complex environments, achieved independent innovative advances in various aspects including active technology of the Deformation Control on Foundation Pit, design theory and method of defensing successive demolition on foundation pit, method and new technology of multi-grade shoring without support design and technology of underground water recharge on foundation pit in coastal area. This achievement was applied in Large-long-deep foundation pits of 72 large-scale construction projects in 15 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, and the cumulative savings was 848 million yuan.
