"Haoyue 8", a new type of Formula racing car was independently developed by "Peiyang Dynamics", a student racing team from Tianjin University (TJU), and debuted at Peiyang Park Campus recently. With a blue and white color scheme, streamlined dynamic appearance, independent research and development of the engine intake system and using industry-leading 3D printing rapid prototyping (RP) technology, this new racing car was designed and developed by Tianjin University students perfectly fusing technology, innovation, speed and passion.
The technical director, Shen Pengfei proudly announced: "In terms of dynamic performance, we designed the air intake system on our own and employed 3D printing rapid prototyping (RP) technology. We also outsourced the carbon fiber protection device to achieve the perfect integration of strength and accuracy. Further, we modified the original lubrication system, leading to a great improvement in vehicle stability.
As for overall design, the "Hao Yue 8" project followed the precept that while safety and reliability matters, high-performance and lightweight design are equally important. The design and manufacturing took more than 10 months. The maximum speed is up to 110km/h and the time to cover 75 meters-long, from a standing start is only 4.2 second. The whole vehicle weights 220kg, 6% less than last year’s vehicle, while at the same time increasing strength through structural optimization. Meanwhile, the newly designed frame moves the front wing and the main wing 40 millimeters forward so as to provide more a comfortable driving space and position.
The new car optimized the original streamlined appearance using professional Aerodynamic theory. The sleek curved body styling promoted a sense of movement. The body color scheme design was based on the "Peiyang Blue" of Tianjin University, the deep blue contrasting with bright white. It also represents the rigorous and tenacious attitude of Tianjin University's "Peiyang Dynamics" and their perseverance and commitment to motor racing.
In October, "Peiyang Dynamics" will take part in the "Chinese University Formula Race Contest" held at Hubei Xiangyang’s dream racing track on behalf of Tianjin University (TJU). Yan Feng, leader of the "Peiyang Dynamics", said he was confident of the team's performance this year.
The "Peiyang Dynamics" formula racing team has been established for eight years, during which time the team has grown from the original small team into a racing one team of over 100 members. What’s more, the research and development team covers more than 10 professional disciplines including mechanical engineering, industrial design, internal combustion engine design and so on. At present the team has entered maker space at Tianjin University. From now on the team will commercially develop their models and be committed to creating a domestic advanced Formula racing production and research base.
