Celebrating a Decade of Sustainable Energy Leadership: APSEC's Ten Year Journey

 Global

The APEC Sustainable Energy Center (APSEC) was established at the 11th APEC Energy Ministers' Meeting in 2014, operating under China's National Energy Administration (NEA) with daily operations and management entrusted to Tianjin University. As one of two research institutions under the APEC Energy Working Group, APSEC has served as a vital think tank providing essential public goods for the Asia-Pacific region.

Over its decade-long history, APSEC has focused on three key areas:

  • Sustainable Cities Cooperation Network

  • Asia-Pacific Energy Transition Solutions

  • Future Clean Energy Technologies

Through its work, the Center has established itself as a crucial platform for regional exchange and cooperation, making significant contributions to low-carbon sustainable energy development in the Asia-Pacific region. Under the management of Tianjin University and guidance of NEA, APSEC works with member economies through the APEC energy cooperation mechanism to explore tailored, high-quality energy development paths that account for different economies' characteristics. The ultimate goal is to create a sustainable energy future for all people in the Asia-Pacific region.

This institutional arrangement, combining NEA's authority, TJU's academic expertise, and APSEC's regional focus, has proven effective in advancing sustainable energy cooperation across the APEC region.
