TJU-UoA Sustainable Chemical Engineering and Technology Workshop Held

On August 16–17, 2024, the Tianjin University-University of Adelaide Sustainable Chemical Engineering and Technology Workshop made a successful debut at Peiyangyuan Campus of Tianjin University.

Jointly organized by the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology from Tianjin University and the University of Adelaide, this event was co-chaired by esteemed Academician Qiao Shizhang of the University of Adelaide and Dean Fan Xiaobin from Tianjin University's School of Chemical Engineering and Technology. With 'sustainability' at its core, the workshop brought together a cadre of researchers from both institutions to delve into collaborative discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions.

At the opening ceremony hosted by Dean Fan Xiaobin, Zhang Ling, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange at Tianjin University, delivered a keynote speech on behalf of Tianjin University. She reflected on the profound collaborative foundation between Tianjin University and the University of Adelaide, applauding the symposium's significant role in deepening the cooperation between the two institutions, and gave a warm greeting to all the participants. Academician Qiao Shizhang, representing the University of Adelaide, remarked that the visits of Tianjin University's leadership to Adelaide facilitated the successful organization of the symposium. He is confident that the event will not only foster a robust alliance between the two chemical engineering departments who boast long history, but also enhance collaboration in research and education.

Focusing on topics such as new energy technology, energy storage, energy storage materials, CO2 catalytic conversion, recycling of metals from spent batteries, low-carbon hydrogen production, artificial intelligence in the chemical industry, and innovation and entrepreneurship in education, esteemed speakers from the University of Adelaide and Tianjin University's School of Chemical Engineering and Technology presented their research findings and ideas in both online and offline formats, sparking innovation through collaboration. The 26 presentations attracted proactive attendance from over 70 students from China and abroad.

Concluding the event, Dean Fan Xiaobin presided over the closing ceremony, during which Academician Qiao Shizhang from the University of Adelaide delivered a summarizing address. Academician Qiao expressed his gratitude for the excellent presentations and the active involvement of the faculty and students. He emphasized that the symposium had facilitated valuable exchanges and would foster more opportunities for collaboration. Looking forward, the University of Adelaide and Tianjin University will continue to engage in regular academic discussions, promoting a positive and interactive relationship. With this, the Tianjin University-University of Adelaide Sustainable Chemical Engineering and Technology Workshop came to a successful and fruitful conclusion.

Following the workshop, the on-site delegates from the University of Adelaide were given a tour of the foundational and technical experimental teaching centers, as well as the advanced Large Instrument Analysis and Testing Platform at Tianjin University's School of Chemical Engineering and Technology.
