After extensive consultation and discussion, the theme for the series of celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the Chemical Engineering and Technology discipline at Tianjin University has been set as "A Century of Chemical Engineering, A Heart to Serve the Nation, and A New Journey to Embark on," with the slogan "Let New Quality Productive Forces Continue the Centennial Development of the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology."
The theme and the slogan aim to highlight the impressive development of Tianjin University's Chemical Engineering and Technology discipline over the past century and the unwavering dedication of the generations of its alumni. It is intended to inspire its over 50,000 alumni and all current faculty and students to strengthen their confidence in the discipline, enhance their historical awareness, and set ambitious goals, working together to build a world-class chemical engineering discipline and cultivate top-tier leaders who meet the demands of China's modernization.
The logo for the series of celebrations features a composition of tower equipment, red velvet, the numbers "100," "1925," and "2025," along with the infinity symbol (∞). This design vividly illustrates the glorious history of the Chemical Engineering and Technology discipline at TJU, while also demonstrating the enterprising, persevering, and innovative spirit of its alumni.
The Chemical Engineering and Technology discipline at Tianjin University boasts a rich history. In 1925, Tianjin University, then known as Peiyang University, established the Industrial Chemistry Lecture Hall. Hou Debang, a pioneering figure in China's modern chemical industry, was invited as a guest professor to lead teaching activities.
In celebrating the centennial anniversary of the discipline, the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology will launch a series of initiatives. These include hosting the Centennial Development Conference, the Chemical Engineering Centennial Summit Forum, the International Forum for the Development of the Chemical Engineering Discipline, and tribute activities from academic journals. Additionally, they will compile two books:The General History of the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology at TJUandA Brief History of the Chemical Engineering and Technology Discipline at TJU. The initiatives also involve establishing a history museum for the school, creating a development fund named in honor of the centennial anniversary, organizing a series of regional forums featuring alumni in the chemical industry, and arranging celebration events involving faculty, students, and alumni.
On May 16 this year, alumnus Xie Kechang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was appointed as a consultant for the series of celebrations and delivered the inaugural report at the "Chemical Engineering Centennial Summit Forum." This event officially kicked off the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Chemical Engineering and Technology discipline at Tianjin University.
