Tianjin University has introduced panoramic teaching spaces equipped with AI technology in over 140 smart classrooms, featuring LED full-color screens, naked-eye 3D displays, panoramic smart blackboards, VR experiences, and AI teaching assistants. As the new semester begins, these innovations empower both students and faculty in their learning and teaching experiences.
Located in the 33rd Teaching Building of the Peiyangyuan campus, the panoramic teaching space covers 341 square meters and can accommodate 200 people simultaneously. This integrated environment combines online teaching, experiential learning, 3D model instruction, group teaching, virtual training, remote synchronous classrooms, and scientific research.
The live teaching model supports 60 simultaneous online connections, allowing instructors to teach on-site while students participate from anywhere in the world with internet access, enjoying the convenience and efficiency that technology provides.
Innovative designs, including a unique layout, large LED curved walls, multi-directional cameras, surround sound, advanced audio and video encoding, and efficient network protocols, ensure low latency and high interactivity within the panoramic teaching space. This setup enables teachers to promptly capture student information, provide real-time feedback, and enhance information literacy, significantly improving classroom efficiency and achieving educational objectives.
The panoramic teaching space revolutionizes traditional teaching models by introducing a context-oriented "experiential teaching" approach. By creating realistic environments tailored to different subjects and themes, it allows students to experience scenarios they may never encounter otherwise. High-definition, high-resolution 360-degree panoramic videos and images offer an intuitive understanding of the teaching context and content. Additionally, the space facilitates seamless integration with the East-West University Course Sharing Alliance, promoting the co-construction and sharing of high-quality educational resources while enhancing collaboration and communication among national teaching research teams.
In this new semester, Tianjin University’s 140 smart classrooms across both campuses have been upgraded with AI-powered teaching software. The upgrade encompasses 70 classrooms in the 23rd and 26th Teaching Buildings on the Wanjing Road campus and 70 classrooms in the 44th, 45th, and 46th Teaching Buildings on the Peiyangyuan campus. The upgraded classrooms feature an "intelligent brain," fully integrating the dual campus smart classroom linkage system, AI recording and analysis, AI teaching assistant 1.0, and AI teaching data analysis functions. This infusion of AI technology enhances every aspect of teaching, enabling remote connectivity, resource development and analysis, knowledge graph creation, personalized learning, and refined data collection and analysis for effective teaching.
