On September 12, at the opening ceremony to welcome new students, Professor Liu Xiuyun, Dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, delivered a speech as a faculty representative.
She shared her insights with over 10,000 first-year students of Tianjin University: Passion is our great strength, and time is our most precious resource.
She said: "The road to development is long and difficult. The process of pursuing dreams is full of challenges and difficulties. Sometimes, we may encounter setbacks or failures. We may feel lost and helpless. However, passion gives us the courage to persevere in the face of adversity. This passion is the familiarity with the city where you study, the gratitude to your alma mater, the thirst for professional knowledge, the persistence in exploring the unknown, and the reverence and passion for science. When we fall in love with our major, our aesthetics, vision, the efforts we are willing to put in, and our attitude towards doing things will change accordingly. Deep and persistent passion will also shape our courage to be the pioneer.”
“In college, we need to develop the abilities to innovate, delve into research, practice, work in a team, and most importantly, the ability to manage time. Time is the fairest gift in the world, and it is also our most valuable treasure. We have an equal 24 hours a day, and how we use that time will determine how different we are from others. It is necessary to make plans, grasp the present, lead a quiet life and make steady progress. Review regularly, clarify goals, withstand temptation, and endure loneliness. In the evolving world, time quietly shuttles between the past and the future. Time gives us youth, but also takes our youth away. No one can stop the passage of time. May everyone have the wisdom and courage to harness time.”
Liu Xiuyun, a young female biological scientist born in 1988, received extensive attention from society and the media when she took office as the dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology in May this year.
In 2021, she was appointed a talented professor and doctoral supervisor at Tianjin University. Her achievements result from her infinite passion and unremitting pursuit of scientific research.
