 Arts and Culture

A 13-member summer social practice team from Tianjin University completed a seven-day, 600-kilometer journey across five districts and seven villages in Tianjin. The team provided health education and medical services to hundreds of elderly residents, fulfilling their mission to serve public health.

"Grandpas and grandmas, please take your seats. Our medical lecture is about to begin!" Despite heavy rain outside, the community center in Xinhouzhuang Village, Beichen District, was filled with enthusiastic seniors awaiting the students' health education session on coronary heart disease, CPR, and Heimlich maneuver techniques. The villagers actively participated, practicing rescue actions and asking questions.

"Is this free?" asked one elder. "Yes, it’s free. We are here to serve the people!" Early morning at the market in Lianmeng Village, Binhai New Area, the team held a "village clinic," organizing booths, distributing health brochures, and offering blood glucose, blood pressure, and heart health checks. The meticulous consultations earned widespread praise from the villagers.

"Thank you, Tianjin University students, for visiting us!" an elderly man expressed. "Take care, grandpa! We will visit you often!" In the Wuma Road community, Nankai District, the team visited many elderly residents living alone with limited mobility. Determined to provide in-home services, the students carried medical equipment to these homes, engaging in conversations, checking health conditions, and offering advice.

The practice team also visited rural clinics, where they identified issues like a shortage of medical personnel and inadequate technology in primary care. The team suggested developing online management platforms for chronic conditions like hypertension and diabetes.
