At the 2024 Tianjin University Graduate Commencement Ceremony, university leaders, alumni, faculty, and student representatives delivered motivating speeches, offering heartfelt blessings and valuable advice to the graduates.
President Jin Donghan motivated the graduates with three "new" concepts: new aspirations, new pathways, and new contributions. He urged the graduates to uphold Tianjin University's mission of "strengthening the nation through education," to maintain a pioneering spirit, and to persistently pursue their dreams. Jin emphasized the importance of innovation and exploration, encouraging graduates to expand their horizons and contribute to China's high-quality economic and social development.
Professor Liu Shuang from the School of Medicine shared three hopes for the graduates: to cherish a love for the nation and maintain a broad vision, to stay passionate about their careers and immerse themselves in meaningful work, and to maintain a love for life by fostering a healthy and balanced lifestyle, cultivating hobbies, and cherishing relationships with family and friends.
Alumni representative Zhang Laiyong, a distinguished graduate and one of the first recipient of the "National Outstanding Engineer" title, shared his life experiences and insights on career choice, dedication, and enjoyment. He emphasized the importance of striving for one's dreams, setting clear life goals, diligently working on present tasks, and achieving personal growth through persistence and breakthroughs.
International student representative Kashan Khan highlighted his enriching experience at Tianjin University. He spoke about learning Chinese, understanding Chinese culture, and forming friendships with peers from around the world. Kasun expressed pride in being part of Tianjin University and wished for its continued growth. He also hoped more international students would come to China and contribute to global unity.
Graduate representative Deng Chengman, a master's student from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, spoke about the core values of Tianjin University students: dedication to scientific research, maintaining gratitude and a sense of national duty, and embracing youth through contribution. Deng expressed his commitment to tackling key challenges, dedicating himself to national development, and creating achievements worthy of the nation, the era, and youth.
The speeches collectively highlighted the importance of innovation, national dedication, and personal and professional excellence. The speakers encouraged the graduates to carry forward Tianjin University's legacy and make meaningful contributions to society and the world.
