The recent culmination of the "Tiankai Cup" National University Students’ Intelligent Science and Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge Finals, held at Tiankai Higher Education Innovation Park from May 12 to 16, showcased the pinnacle of innovation. Out of 943 projects from universities nationwide, 132 projects reached the finals, with Tianjin University securing three prestigious awards, highlighting its prowess in the field.
The competition, featuring tracks like Entrepreneurship Practice, Innovation Service Empowerment, Innovative Envisioning, and Innovation Challenge, attracted a distinguished panel of judges, including academicians, Cheung Kong Scholars, Distinguished Young Scholars, scientists, educators, and entrepreneurs.
Tianjin University's triumphant projects represented groundbreaking solutions to pressing issues. The team from the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology unveiled an innovative approach to treating sulfur-containing pesticide wastewater, earning them third prize in the Innovation Service Empowerment track. Their research, focusing on material development and process optimization using artificial intelligence, garnered acclaim from industry peers.
Another standout project emerged from the College of Management and Economics, where a team devised a Knowledge Graph-based Large Language Model (LLM) for healthcare. Their creation, enhancing medical Q&A and decision support systems, clinched the Excellence Award in the Innovation Service Empowerment track, showcasing the transformative potential of LLM in healthcare.
In the Innovation Challenge track, the School of Environmental Science and Engineering presented a project addressing agricultural sustainability with a novel microalgae fertilizer. With a higher yield growth rate and superior heavy metal adsorption capabilities, their solution tackled key challenges in agriculture, earning them third prize.
Tianjin University's success underscored its commitment to innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration, setting a precedent for excellence in the academic community. The competition, which attracted entries from leading universities across China, emphasized the importance of merging theoretical knowledge with practical applications to effectively address real-world challenges.
The "Tiankai Cup" serves as a platform for nurturing the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs. Organized by the Tianjin Municipal Education Commission, the Tianjin Science and Technology Bureau, Tianjin Haihe Media Center, and other entities, it facilitates the exchange of ideas and fosters a culture of innovation.
