Recently, National first-class actor and winner of the "Plum Performance Award," Mr. Huang Qifeng, came to Tianjin University to give an engaging lecture as one of the general education course series "Peking Opera and Chinese Culture".

According to Mr. Liu Kun, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office of Tianjin University and the person in charge of the "Peking Opera and Chinese Culture" course, the course was set up in 2020 and is a key optional course in general education at Tianjin University. The course includes 5 modules and 14 units, covering topics such as "Elements and Features," "Roles and Schools," "Special Topics in Modern Opera," "Peking Opera and National Spirit," and "Stage Practice and Audience Interaction." It employs diverse teaching methods such as analysis of cultural values, and practical teaching demonstrations, implementing a three-tiered teaching approach of "formal aesthetics - value aesthetics - practical aesthetics," aiming to strengthen general education in arts and aesthetics. Currently, the course is in its fourth round of teaching.

During his lecture, Mr. Huang, starting from Wusheng (the actor who performs martial arts characters), distinguished the roles in Peking Opera and presented costume patterns, cultural implications, Peking Opera masks and character personalities, summarizing and generalizing the characteristics of Peking Opera art as "virtualization," "exaggeration," "formalization," and "comprehensiveness," unveiling scenes both on and off the stage.

Mr. Huang incorporated performance props and experiential activities into the classroom, transforming the podium into a stage, allowing students to immerse themselves in the artistic charm of Peking Opera.

Mr. Huang’s lively and humorous performance and expression attracted many students to ask questions enthusiastically, turning them into " amateur performers" instantly.

The "Peking Opera and Chinese Culture" course was warmly welcomed upon its launch by all students.
