“There is no standard for success and excellence. Your life is about following your heart to be what you want to be,” Zhao Hanpeng said. He entered Tianjin University’s School of Electrical and Information Engineering in 2017 and is going to graduate this summer. Zhao is recommended to Peking University for further study. He has earned multiple honors during his college years like the winner of the National Scholarship for three consecutive years, the university’s “Model Tri-merits Students” who excel morally, academically and physically, and the meritorious winner of 2020 Mathematical Contest in Modeling. A dedicated learner
No pains, no gains.
Zhao Hanpeng is a straight A student. He ranks first in his major. For him, learning is a habit.
“Everything that you are passionate about or are adept at, deserves your devotion.”
Despite his previous confusion over major selection, Zhao has been well aware that hard working is conducive to achieving his aspiration of being recommended for admission to a postgraduate program. "The key to success is your wholehearted devotion."
When it comes to learning methods, he holds that there is no universal module for all students since people vary in abilities, talents and specialties. “I grope my way forward while learning. Further advance is within your reach as long as stick to your goal, make a blueprint, and carry it out accordingly. It may sound corny, but, as far as I can see, there is plenty of truth.”
“A harvest may not immediately ensue from your sowing. Nevertheless, your persistence will eventually bear fruit provided that you can endure cooling heels. Chicken soup for the soul as it may be, you can only tell its flavor after a taste.”
Attempt is a stepping stone to success.
"Unlike in high school, college life encourages students to strive for opportunities. Therefore, when a chance knocks at the door, grab it."
Zhao was once worried about that he might fail to strike a balance between study and new challenges – becoming a volunteer teacher, and pursuing a minor degree. But looking back, he is glad that he rose to the occasion at that moment.
He joined the university’s voluntary group and became a voluntary teacher twice in a remote village in Sichuan Province.

“Those experiences improved my ability, boosted my confidence, broadened my horizon and widened my circle of friends and acquaintances.”
He has an open attitude towards unknown challenges. “Everyone has his own comfort zone. But if you refuse to get out of it and take risks, you are certain to mark time.”
An accomplised photographer
Zhao Hanpeng lives a rich and colorful life. He has many hobbies like photography, music, visiting exhibitions, watching movies, and feasting on delicacies.
Photography is a must talk topic for Zhao.
He was keen on shooting everyday life on Peiyangyuan Campus. He captured the beauty of the university life through his lens and presented in front of people advanced facilities in the stadium, vigorous athletes on the field, happy faces during Crabapple Blossom Festivals, elegance actresses on the stage and assiduous students in military training.

An determined optimist
For Zhao Hanpeng, the charm of life lies in its uncertainty, and even full preparation may end up with failure.
Zhao are accustomed to setting his expectations low and being ready to accept failures.
“Growing up is a journey during which your passion is gradually ironed out by tribulations and you accordingly become more resilient. As long as you carry along, your persistence at present will mean something to you.”
Zhao likes to be future-oriented, as he puts it, “The charm of life lies in its uncertainty, and some day your efforts will bear fruits.”
