Admission to Undergraduate Programs of Tianjin University 2020 For International Students

Tianjin University (TJU) offers a wide range of undergraduate programs catering for a variety of interests, including 63 bachelor degree programs. Among them, 4 bachelor’s degree programs can be offered fully in English (Pharmaceutical Science is only delivered in English). The study period for bachelor degree study is respectively 4-5 years. Undergraduate students who have completed the tasks required in their training programs within the designated length of study, passed their assessments and met the graduation requirements will be allowed to graduate by the University, and will be granted a graduation certificate. Students who are qualified to be awarded a degree will receive the relevant bachelor degree and diploma. All Chinese-taught undergraduates are required to reach Band 5 of Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages while all English-taught undergraduates are required to reach Band 4 of Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages. Qualification of Applicants

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport. Applicants of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan who have immigrated to other countries should meet the conditions set by the Document No.83 (2009) of Ministry of Education of the PRC.

2. A bachelor’s Degree program applicant should hold a high school diploma and be under the age of 30. Applicants who are still under the age of 18 as of September 1, 2020 must submit the original guardian certificate issued by the Tianjin District Notary Office, and the Guardian must be a permanent resident of Tianjin.

3. Language Proficiency requirements:

Chinese-taught programs applicants need to submit HSK certificates. A minimum requirement of HSK4 (Score 195 or above) for Engineering/Science or HSK5 (Score 180 or above) for business/liberal arts is needed.

English-taught programs applicants need to submit English proficiency certificate (English native speakers are exempted). TOFEL: no less than 80, IELTS: no less than 6.0.

4. Applicants should have good conduct, good physical and mental health, and be willing to abide by the laws and regulations of China and Tianjin University.

Applicants should complete an Online Application on our website（tju.at0086.cn/student）according to the application schedule. Applicants should fill in the application information online, upload the application documents listed below to the Online Application System.

Admission results will be announced in early April, 2020.

3rd Round: Apr 15,2020-Jun 15,2020

The application system will still be available during the winter break. Due to the limited quota of each school, early application is strongly advised.

Application Documents

1. Scan of highest diploma or original notarized diploma. (Scan of pre-graduation certificate is required if the applicants have not gained certificate. Please resubmit the notarized copy of highest diploma before registration).

2. Scan of notarized copy of the academic transcripts or scan of international standardization test results (such as SAT/ACT/A-Level/AP/IB etc.).

3. Photocopy of passport.

4. Applicant applying for programs taught in Chinese needs to submit HSK certificate. Applicants whose mother tongue is Chinese or whose instruction language is Chinese during the highest educational level can be exempted from HSK certificate. Applicant who has not met the requirement of Chinese proficiency level should take Chinese language courses for one year, and start major studies when achieving the required HSK certificate.

Applicant applying for programs taught in English needs to submit English proficiency certificate.

5. Applicants for art or architectural majors are requested to submit five sketches of the applicants’ own works.

6. Applicants who are not in China at present must submit scan of Certificate of Non-Criminal Records.

7. Applicants who are now in China must submit scan of Photocopy of Visa and Transfer Certificate from present school.

8. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Please select the appropriate time to have medical examination as the medical results have a 6-month validity).

9. Applicants used to be Chinese citizens but later immigrated to other countries who have meet the conditions set by the Document No.83 (2009) of Ministry of Education of the PRC should submit citizenship certificate and 4-year visa record.

Application Remarks

Applicants are required to submit scanned images of all required documents at the time of application. All uploaded documents should be in Chinese or in English; otherwise notarial translations in Chinese or English are required. Once translated, the original documents and certified translations are to be submitted together to the application system.

Please scan the original or notarized application documents in color using a scanner. Images captured by mobile phone or camera are not acceptable. Copies are also not acceptable.

TJU has the right to request the applicants to provide the original or notarized hard copies of application documents for further qualification checks if the uploaded documents are not sufficient. Applicants shall guarantee all the information and application documents submitted in this application are authentic and accurate, otherwise they will be disqualified from admission.

Evaluation and Admission

TJU enrolls students based on evaluation of applicants’ academic scores, language proficiency and interview performance (Interview date will be announced afterwards).

Except for those nominated for Chinese Government Scholarship, the first academic year tuition fee for other nominated students should be transferred in advance to Tianjin University bank account（http://sie.tju.edu.cn/xwxm/zwskxwxm/bk/201910/t20191024_315138.html）and the scanned counterfoil sent to TJU online Application System (tju.at0086.cn/student). TJU will issue admission notice and visa documents to those admitted in July after receiving the scanned counterfoil. Students who give up studying in our university due to personal reasons will not be refunded their tuition fees.

Note: When wiring tuition fee to the university bank account, you must fill in application number, applicant’s name and the program you are going to take.

All freshmen need to attend language proficiency test after registration, those who fail to pass the test need to have Chinese Tutoring for one year at their own expense.

Scholarship

Tianjin University offers a variety of scholarships to incoming full-time international undergraduate students: Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) and Tianjin University International Students Scholarship, etc.

Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply to the dispatching authorities for overseas study or Chinese embassies/consulates in their home country.

When filling in the application form for Chinese Government Scholarship, please fill in "Tianjin University" as your first choice in the column of "application institution". It is suggested that applicants apply to Chinese embassies/consulates after obtaining pre-admission certificate.

Visa Application and Registration

Admitted students should bring their personal and ordinary passport, Certificate of Admission, Visa Application Form (JW202/JW201), and original Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners (as well as other original documents of physical examination) to the Embassy or Consulate of the People's Republic of China, and apply for a student visa (X1 visa). Students are required to arrive at TJU (along with the required documents) and complete their university registration during the dates indicated in the Admission package.

Normally, registration is held in late August or early September. All students should present the required original high school certificates, and submit the diploma copies certified by high school conferring institutions or certification authorities upon registration at Tianjin University for enrollment qualification review. Students who fail the enrollment qualification review will be disqualified from enrollment.

Admission to Graduate Programs of Tianjin University 2020 For International Students

Tianjin University (TJU) offers a wide range of graduate programs catering for a variety of interests, including 114 master degree programs and 130 doctoral degree programs. Among them, 21 master’s degree programs and 58 doctoral degree programs can be offered fully in English (Pharmaceutical Science of master level and Applied chemistry pharmaceutical science direction of doctoral level are only delivered in English). The study period for master and doctoral degree study is respectively 2-3 years and 4 years. Students who complete the tasks required in their training programs within the designated length of study, pass their assessments and meet the graduation requirements will be allowed to graduate by the University, and will be granted a graduation certificate. Students who are qualified to be awarded a degree will receive the relevant master’s or doctoral degree and diploma. All Chinese-taught graduates are required to reach Band 5 of Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages（Masters in major of MTCSOL and Cross-Cultural Education are required to reach HSK6）while all English-taught graduates are required to reach Band 3 of Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages. 2. A Master’s Degree program applicant should hold a Bachelor diploma and be under the age of 35.

A Doctoral Degree program applicant should hold a Master diploma and be under the age of 40. Applicants shall be of good moral character, physically and mentally healthy, and willing to comply with Chinese laws and the regulations of Tianjin University.

3. Language Proficiency requirements:

Chinese-taught programs applicants need to submit HSK certificates. A minimum requirement of HSK4 (Score 195 or above) for Engineering/Science; HSK5 (Score 180 or above) for business and liberal arts is needed.

6. Two recommendation letters. Applicants who apply for Master’s program need to submit two recommendation letters in English or Chinese from two professors or associate professors. Applicants who apply for the Doctoral program need to submit two recommendation letters in English or Chinese from two professors .

7. Applicants for art or architectural majors are requested to submit two sketches of the applicants’ own works.

Scholarship

Tianjin University offers a variety of scholarship to incoming full-time international graduate students: Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS), Tianjin Government Scholarship.

The full CGS covers tuition fees, living allowance, on-campus accommodation, and comprehensive medical insurance. For incoming full-time international graduate students there are two kinds of channel through which to apply for CGS: through Chinese Embassies or Consulates in your home country or through Chinese universities. (*Applicants can choose only one application channel. Repeated application through more than one channel is not allowed.) Admission to Foundation Program of Tianjin University 2020 For International Students Program

Tianjin University（TJU）is one of the 10 universities to provide Foundation Program for International Undergraduates awarded with Chinese Government Scholarships under the Ministry of Education in China. Since 2005, nearly 2000 international students, with solid Chinese language skills, strong adaptability in professional learning and high-level intercultural communication competence, have graduated from TJU. The Foundation Program is designed for beginners who plan to study science or engineering to have a systematic study of general Chinese, technical Chinese, basic mathematics, physics and chemistry, and will help them to proceed to the degree programs in various disciplines at TJU or other renowned higher education institutions.

At present, 171 international students from 60 countries supported by Chinese Government Scholarship, or at their own expense are studying in the foundation program at Tianjin University.

Course Setting

Comprehensive Chinese, Chinese Listening, Chinese character, Oral Chinese, Technical Chinese, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry.

The 1st semester is the Chinese strengthening stage, 34 class hours a week; in the 2nd semester, on the basis of Chinese strengthening, the students also study such courses as math, physics and chemistry, 38 class hours a week.

Features and Strengths

Home to many world leading disciplines, like Chemical Engineering and Architecture, TJU is the first university and one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in China.

A complete curriculum system with substantial content and specific purposes has been formed for science and engineering beginners. It offers class of small group teaching. Fees

2. Tuition: 12000 RMB/fall semester; 16900 RMB/spring semester;

Tianjin University shall reserve the right of tuition and fees modification. After finishing the registration, the fees can’t be returned if students transfer or drop out of school;

3. Medical Insurance: 400 RMB/semester;

4. Other fees such as traveling fee, learning materials fee should be undertaken by students themselves;

Note: Self-funded students may find their own living accommodation off campus, but they must register to the local police station within 24 hours.
