Recently, the International Symposium on Advanced Engineering Talent Training was held at Tianjin University. Vice-president Yu Jianxing chaired the meeting and expert representatives from the United States International Education Union (AAFIE) attended the meeting. Representatives from the Qiushi Honors College, International Engineering Institute, Office of Undergraduate Affairs and the Office of International Cooperation of Tianjin University had discussions with AAFIE experts about engineering personnel cultivation, international cooperation and engineering education reform among other things.
At the conference, Vice President Yu said that Tianjin University had excellent engineering talent training and engineering education reform for exploration and practice, committed to cultivating excellent talent with national interests, global perspectives, innovative spirits and practical ability in mind, thus guiding students to complete study efficiently and happily during the learning process and to enjoy the learning and growth process at the university. He stressed that Tianjin University is like a super sponge, hoping to learn from the domestic and foreign advanced engineering education training models and ideas and to ceaselessly explore new practices.
Mark Stewart, the Vice Chairman of AAFIE said Tianjin University has made brilliant achievements in the internationalization and cultivation of engineering talent. Afterwards, he introduced the basic situation of the Union and the ideas and resources used to enhance the global competitiveness and innovation of Engineering Education in Colleges and Universities. He stressed the alliance system is a group for "international competitiveness", consisting of American professors, multinational companies, inventors, senior engineers, and entrepreneurs, and he hopes to cooperate with Tianjin University and to share the curriculum resources, so helping Tianjin University’s outstanding engineering personnel training.
At the meeting, the delegates had a deep discussion around the details of following up cooperation and the issues both sides are interested in, and reached a preliminary consensus on engineering education and innovative curriculum construction.
The AAFIE is a non-government organization, led by the American Association of University Professors, devoted to globally oriented high level university development, implementation, and to carry out global competitiveness programs. AAFIE professors investigated international engineering practice and thinking models, the research and development of new products, and international engineering case studies as the core content of their activities. Also they aimed to cooperate with universities and colleges to educate talent about international competitiveness, to construct an international engineering innovation Lab together, and instill innovative talent with an international vision.
