The Tenth "Third Engineering Division of Construction Engineering Company of China Construction Cup" National College Students Structural Design Contest of 2016 opened on October 13, 2016 at the Wei Jin Road Campus, Tianjin University. The conference was attended by 125 teams from 124 universities nationwide.

It is reported that this Competition is one of top nine undergraduate disciplinary competitions approved by the Ministry of Education, aiming to improve students’ innovative design capability, hands-on practical ability and overall quality and to strengthen exchange and cooperation between colleges and universities.  

The topic of this competition is large-span roof structure. With the rapid development of national economy and the improvement of comprehensive national strength, the technological level of China's large-span structure has also made great progress and is catching up with the more advanced international levels. By virtue of the successful hosting of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, bidding for the 2022 Winter Olympics and other major national events, China has built or will soon build a large number of sports venues, exhibition halls, airport terminals and other social public buildings with high standards and high specifications. It not only offers a good opportunity for the further development of China's long-span structures, but also develops a higher demand for the technical level of China's large-span structures. In this competition, each team will, within the specified time, make a complete model including the bearing plate, supporting structure and roof, conduct an on-site defense and receive evaluation by the judges.
