Tianjin University Holds Forum Celebrating 129th Anniversary and National Day

Tianjin University hosted a forum to celebrate its 129th anniversary, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. University officials, alumni, faculty, and students gathered to discuss the university's future development, the event was chaired by Yang Xianjin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin University.

President Jin Donghan welcomed the alumni and reviewed the university's recent achievements. He emphasized the core values that have shaped Tianjin University’s identity over its 129-year history: the mission of “revitalizing the country through education,” the motto of “Seeking Truth from Facts,” and a commitment to “precision in learning and strictness in teaching.” Jin also noted the university’s ongoing efforts toward innovation and its tradition of patriotism, asserting that Tianjin University is steadily advancing toward becoming a world-class institution.

Jin highlighted the strong impetus provided by the National Education Conference for the university’s growth. He called on faculty, students, and alumni to contribute ideas to help Tianjin University achieve its goal of becoming a world-class institution.

During the forum, former university leaders reflected on the institution’s history and set expectations for its future progress. Alumni also shared their thoughts on the university’s path forward.

Faculty and student representatives also shared their experiences. Professor Wei Jianguo, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Intelligence and Computing, urged educators to approach their roles with innovation, humility, and sincerity. Feng Zhanyu, a doctoral student in the School of Mechanical Engineering, expressed his determination to contribute to the development of a strong education system, following in the footsteps of his predecessors.

Liu Xiuyun, Dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology (SPST), emphasized the importance of integrating education, science, and talent. She also shared her research achievements and teaching plans aimed at strengthening the university's position in these areas.

In his concluding remarks, Yang Xianjin acknowledged the valuable suggestions made during the forum and stressed the university’s commitment to implementing practical measures for high-quality development. He reaffirmed Tianjin University’s mission of "revitalizing the country through education" and its goal of building a world-class institution with Chinese characteristics. Yang emphasized the demand for comprehensive education reform, strengthened party leadership, and the coordinated development of education, science, and talent.

Yang also outlined several key priorities: moral education, cultivating talent loyal to the Party and country, optimizing the university’s discipline layout, addressing national strategic needs, promoting interdisciplinary integration, enhancing innovation capabilities, and attracting top-level and young outstanding talent. He also emphasized deepening institutional reforms and expanding international cooperation.

Yang concluded by underscoring the significance of the upcoming 130th anniversary and reaffirmed the university's dedication to its mission, gathering wisdom and strength to build a world-class institution and contribute to the nation’s rejuvenation.
