Tianjin Science and Technology Awards Honor TJU Achievements

The prestigious Tianjin Science and Technology Awards for 2023 were recently announced, celebrating outstanding contributions to innovation and scientific advancement. Tianjin University (TJU) rose to prominence among the awardees, receiving 53 Tianjin Science and Technology Awards for its achievements.

TJU was honored with 20 awards for its first unit, which included 1 special prize, 4 first prizes, and 4 second prizes in natural science, 3 first prizes in technological invention, and 4 first prizes and 4 second prizes for scientific and technological progress.

Significantly, the 2023 Tianjin Science and Technology Awards recognized a total of 37 individuals with first-class honors or higher. Tianjin University spearheaded the initiative by securing 12 first-class awards, making up a remarkable 32.4% of the total, thereby solidifying its status as a leader in scientific distinction in Tianjin.

Professor Sun Tao, from the School of Mechanical Engineering, secured the prestigious Natural Science Award for leading the project on "Innovative Design and Regulation Theory of Parallel Robots." This groundbreaking endeavor introduced a finite-instantaneous spin theory system, revolutionizing the design and control of parallel robots and propelling innovative applications in industrial and medical domains.

Other notable achievements included the projects "Multi-scale Construction and Regulation of Efficient Ester Hydrogenation Catalysts" led by Professor Ma Xinbin from the School of Chemical Engineering, "Molecular Design of Azobased Photoresponsive Materials and the Basic Theory of Energy Conversion" led by Professor Feng Wei from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, and "Sources, Formation Mechanisms and Climatic Effects of Atmospheric Aerosols in Urban and Background Areas" under the leadership of Professor Fu Pingqing from the School of Earth System Science. These advancements earned the top award in Natural Sciences.

Within the field of Technical Invention, significant endeavors like "High-performance Non-invasive Brain-computer Interface Coding and Decoding Key Technology System" led by Professor Ming Dong from the Medical School, and "Key Technology and Application of High-Precision Creation and Stable Service of Space Spreadable Structures" and "Key Technology and Application of Interaction between Lunar Lander and the Lunar Surface" led by Professors He Baiyan and Cui Yuhong respectively, secured the prestigious First Prize.

Additionally, achievements honored with the First Prize of Science and Technology Progress included groundbreaking projects like "Key Technology and Application of High-efficiency and Reliable Off-road Diesel Engine Air System" led by Professor Wang Tianyou from the School of Mechanical Engineering, and "Key Technology and Engineering Application of Active Control of Deformation Influence in Urban Underground Construction Environment" led by Professor Zheng Gang from the School of Civil Engineering, among others.

Tianjin University also received recognition as a collaborative unit, with 33 awards attributed for its joint efforts, among which 4 were bestowed upon its staff as key contributors.
