On November 22, Jacques Biot, Chairman of Huawei Technologies France and Former President of Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris), attended the Entrepreneur Talk program hosted by TJU Xuanhuai School and delivered a lecture on the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem of IP Paris.

Jacques Biot introduced the three pillars of the Novation Centers at IP Paris: science, education and entrepreneurship. “Triangle structure, the most stable structure, is applied in the management framework of IP Paris. Of the three pillars, entrepreneurship plays the most important role. For instance, an automotive contractor entrepreneur incubated at our center has a very clear value, that is, to keep pace with the latest and cutting-edge technology to maintain sustained competitiveness. We call it practice of entrepreneurship and innovation within the team.” said Mr. Biot.

Having learned about the development of innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem at TJU, Biot noted that Tianjin University shares the same mindset as IP Paris in terms of innovation ecosystem development. The Novation Centers should be available to a wider range of people, rather than for students only. For example, when facing difficulties in start-ups, some executives and young people would come to the center and participate in an incubator or accelerator program. The support we give them is similar to what TJU’s Xuanhuai School has been trying to do. “Our goal is to complement innovative entrepreneurship practices with relevant courses, and to create a sense of belonging for everyone in our community,” said Biot.

After the lecture, Mr. Biot was conferred the title of Entrepreneurship Tutor at TJU’s Xuanhuai School. He visited the photoelectric platform and Ultrafast Laser Lab at the School of Precision Instrument and Opto-electronics Engineering and the Large Facility Lab at the School of Earth System Science.
