Professor Bert Weckhuysen Conferred Honorary Professorship

On November 14, Professor Bert Weckhuysen, president of the European Federation of Catalysis Societies and a professor at Utrecht University (The Netherlands), was appointed as an Honorary Professor of Tianjin University.

Tianjin University’s Vice President Gong Jinlong, Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology Fan Xiaobin and representatives of faculty and students attended the award ceremony.

Following the ceremony, Professor Weckhuysen delivered an academic lecture titled “Advances in Operando Spectroscopy and Microscopy of Catalysts to Foster the Transition Towards a More Sustainable Society”.

During his friendly interaction with the audience in the lecture, Professor Weckhuysen discussed feasible approaches to building new types of refineries based on in-situ spectroscopy and visualization research in the field of catalysis. He introduced chitin, avaluable fraction of sea life wasteand its conversion towards materials, such as coatings. Then, he focused on issues related to the activation of carbon dioxide. By sharing his research experiences, he encouraged young scholars and students to be driven by interest, diligent in thinking, brave in innovation, and proactive in action, exploring the charm of science.
