 Research

Twenty four Tianjin University faculty have been named Highly Cited Researchers for 2023 by Clarivate, a research organization and global expert in data insights and collection.

A Highly Cited Researcher is an individual who has demonstrated significant and broad influence in their field(s) of research. Tianjin University, with 24 researchers selected into the list, ranks 9th among universities in Chinese mainland.

The Highly Cited Researchers list by Clarivate is an annual recognition of influential scientists and social scientists worldwide who have made significant contributions to their fields. This year, 7,125 Highly Cited Researcher 2023 designations were issued to 6,849 individuals from more than 1,300 institutions in 67 countries and regions around the world. A total of 1,275 researchers from Chinese mainland have been selected.

The list has proved its leading influence as the selection is based on rigorous assessment of data from 188,500 highly cited papers in SCIE and SSCI-listed journals by experts at the Institute for Scientific Information. Each researcher selected has authored multiple Highly Cited Papers in which rank in the top 1% by citations for their fields and publication year in the Web of Science during the 11-year period 2012 to 2022. Moreover, citation activity is not the sole selection indicator. A preliminary list based on citation activity is then refined using qualitative analysis and expert judgement. Of the world’s population of scientists and social scientists, Highly Cited Researchers are 1 in 1,000.
