Tianjin University and Mahidol University Hold China-ASEAN Industry-University-Research Collaboration Symposium on Sustainable Development

On August 30, at the 2023 China ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, China-ASEAN Industry-University-Research Collaboration Symposium on Sustainable Development, hosted by Tianjin University and Mahidol University, organized by Guizhou University, was held in Guiyang with the support of ASEAN-China Center.

Professor Yang Xianjin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin University, first welcomed the guests on behalf of Tianjin University, the organizer and the Permanent Secretariat Unit of the China-ASEAN Engineering and Technology University Alliance (ACNET-EngTech) in China. He pointed out that Tianjin University adheres to global openness in its education and deepens its international exchanges and cooperation. After years of construction, the ACNET-EngTech has expanded its member units to 26 universities in 8 countries. This symposium aims to gather various talents, conduct in-depth discussions around the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and cutting-edge issues in the development of the China ASEAN region, and share and promote solutions for sustainable development with the industry, academia, and research communities of various countries.

Mr. Jia Peng, Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges at the Ministry of Education, stated that Tianjin University has always been an important participant and promoter of China ASEAN education cooperation. Meanwhile, the ACNET-EngTech has become an important mechanism and platform for both sides to carry out academic exchanges, talent cultivation, and scientific research cooperation in related fields.

Ms. Li Yaying, Deputy Director of the Education, Culture and Tourism Division of the ASEAN-China Center, stated that 2023 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership between China and ASEAN. Since the establishment of the ACNET-EngTech, it has fully utilized the disciplinary advantages of the alliance's universities and achieved win-win cooperation in resource sharing. The ASEAN-China Center hopes to use this symposium as a platform for experts and scholars to actively develop more industry-university-research cooperation, and better serve regional economic and social development.

Vice President of Guizhou University Zhang Dalin briefly introduced the history and educational achievements. He stated that holding the industry-university-research collaboration symposium would comprehensively summarize the new practices, achievements, and contributions of various countries. It will also promote mutual learning and win-win cooperation between China and ASEAN countries in this field.

Mr. Yudil Chatim SKM., M.Ed as the Educational and Cultural Attache of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) of China in Beijing, stated that this symposium provides a platform for experts, scholars, and industry leaders from China and ASEAN countries to exchange knowledge and experience on sustainable development. Hopefully the two parties could work together to address environmental and social challenges, so as to promote economic and social development.

Mr. Liu Baoli, the executive Secretary-General of the Secretariat of the Organizing Committee of the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, stated that the China ASEAN Education Cooperation Week has been successfully held for 15 consecutive years. Tianjin University has always been an old and nice friend of the Week. Since the establishment of the ACNET-EngTech in 2014, a series of themed forums and characteristic activities have been held during the Week for many consecutive years. Tianjin University hopes to conduct more practical cooperation through academic exchanges in the future, further expand the influence of the alliance, and promote its development.
