Representatives from School of Architecture Attend ISUF2023 in Belgrade, Serbia

From September 3, 2023 to September 8, 2023, Professor Wang Lijun, Head of the Department of Architecture, School of Architecture, Tianjin University, led three doctoral students of the Department to Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, to participate in the 30th International Seminar of Urban Form (ISUF2023) conference, which was held in Belgrade, Serbia.

The International Seminar of Urban Form (ISUF) was first held in 1994 in Lausanne, Switzerland, bringing together scholars from a variety of disciplines including architecture, urban planning, sociology, geography and history. The Forum has since taken over the University of Birmingham, UK, as its permanent conference host and publishes the academic journal Urban Morphology. The establishment of the Forum marked the beginning of a new era of cross-fertilization and co-development of the study of urban morphology across disciplines, regions and languages, and to date meetings have been held in countries throughout Europe, Asia, North America, Latin America, Oceania and other parts of the world, with more than 600 members from individuals and organizations around the globe. This is the 30th meeting of the Forum since its inception and the first in the Balkans.

Over the years, the conference has focused on themes related to the theoretical fusion of urban morphology and architectural typology, and this ISUF conference includes five themes, including planning and landscape, urban public space, architectural culture and history, etc. In particular, three PhD students from the School of Architecture presented papers on the sub-forums "Urban Planning", "Urban Design" and "History and Future of Urban Form". In particular, the papers presented by three doctoral students from the School of Architecture related to the sub-forums of 'Urban Planning', 'Urban Design' and 'History and Future of Urban Form'.

The Forum provides an important platform for academic exchange and sharing of ideas for researchers and practitioners in related fields from more than 40 countries on five continents, and is therefore recognized as one of the most important international conferences of Tianjin University.

During the conference, Chen Xinyi, a 2020 PhD student of Prof. Kong Yuhang, gave a conference report entitled "Research on the Design of Public Space Regeneration in Quanzhou Open Residential Areas from the Perspective of Vulnerable Groups Behaviors" in the sub-forum.

Jia Wei, a 2022 PhD student of Prof. Wang Lijun, gave a conference report entitled "Evolution of Landmarks in the Centripetal Spatial schema of Traditional Chinese Cities: A Case Study of the Old Quarters of Tianjin and Xi'an".

He Menglin, a 2020 PhD student of Prof. Yan Jianwei, gave a conference report entitled "Construction and application of Spatial density evaluation model for Metro station: A case study of Tianjin Metro Line 3".

By participating in this international conference, teachers and students of the School of Architecture of Tianjin University had fruitful academic exchanges with professionals and scholars in the field of international urban research, presented the relevant research results of our school. They got the recognition of other scholars in the international arena, and established a good relationship among them. It will be helpful for the future to better connect with the international community and cultivate high-level and high-quality students of Tianjin University.
