ASEAN-China College Students Rowing Carnival Held in Tianjin

On July 22, 2023 ASEAN-China College Students Rowing Carnival was held at Tianjin Haihe River Water Sports Center.

More than 170 athletes from 9 universities of China, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia gathered together in Tianjin and enjoyed the races.

The rowing event included three different rowing team races and the rowing machine race. The representative teams from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia and Tongji University won the top three in the men’s 1000 meter quadruple sculls. Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (Team 1), Xi’an Jiaotong University and University Technology Malaysia were the top three of the women’s 1000 meter quadruple sculls. And the top three of mixed 1000 meter coxed eight were Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, Xi’an Jiaotong University and Tongji University (Team 2).

The rowing machine race kicked off at Tianjin Cultural Center. Xi’an Jiaotong University, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia and Tongji University won the top three in the rowing machine 2000 meter four-man relay.

A cultural festival ensued. students from University Technology Malaysia, Universitas Indonesia, Chulalongkorn University and Xi’an Jiaotong University put on a wonderful show. Tianjin University’s Peiyang Art Troupe also presented a musical feast to all friends come from afar.

The event was sponsored by Tianjin University, Tianjin Municipal Bureau Of Sports and Tianjin Cruise & Yacht Association, and organized by ASEAN-China Smart Ocean Center, Tianjin University, ACNET-EngTech, Tianjin Winter And Water Sports Management Center, Tianjin Water Sports Association and Tianjin Students Rowing Federation.

In 2014, Tianjin University led the establishment of “ACNET-EngTech”. In 2017, Tianjin University’s School of Marine Science and Technology set up the “ASEAN-China Smart Ocean Center”. Over the years, Tianjin University has carried out multi-level sports culture exchange activities under the “training-competition-experience” mode with rowing as the medium, constantly promoting the in-depth cooperation between China and ASEAN countries in research, education, humanities and other aspects.
