Dear teachers and students,
Good morning!
I am Dong Zihao from the School of Electrical and Information Engineering of Tianjin University, and I am much honored to speak as a representative of the Class of 2022. First of all, on behalf of all the undergraduates, I would like to express my sincerest thanks to our alma mater, teachers, parents, and classmates!
Four years ago in the early autumn, I came to Tianjin University full of longing. President Jin Donghan told us at the opening ceremony, "The first thing in the university is self-cultivation. It is necessary to seek knowledge, focus on practice, and get along well with each other." I always keep it in mind as the motto of my university life, guiding me to learn, do things, and be a successful person.
The way to learn lies in perseverance. Every student who enters Tian University is one of the best, and I am no exception. Eighteen years of hard study gave me the opportunity to enter Tianjin University. Standing on a broader stage of life, I found that there are more excellent people outside my world. As a straight A student during my middle school, I even fell behind at the beginning of my university study where my classmates are full of excellent students. I was then hesitant and painful, but Tianjin University people’s hard working stories in history have always inspired me to be fearless and diligent. I used to greet the morning sun on the shore of Jingye Lake, leave the classroom with the lights that were last to be turned off in the Building No. 26, and immerse myself in the library to swim in the ocean of knowledge. With the help of my teachers and classmates, years of redoubled efforts finally began to bear fruit. My academic performance changed from the bottom to the top 30%. I also won many awards such as the National Scholarship, and completed three College Students Innovation Projects. In the process of working day and night, I deeply feel that there is no shortcut to learning, and only by forging ahead and seizing the day can we create the infinite possibilities of youth.
The way to do things lies in working hard. During the summer of my freshman year, I underwent surgery for a brain tumor. At that time, my life was dark, and I didn't know which of the accidents and tomorrow would come first. Howerever, it was the encouragement of my counselor and the care of my supervisor that made me regain the courage to live. Since then, I have made up my mind that since I cannot control the length of life, I will pursue the breadth of life. Forge ahead, live up to my youth, and have no regrets in life. In the second semester of my sophomore year, I ran for student cadres and led the class to be awarded the "Excellent Class" of the University. In my third year of university, I served as a part-time counselor for the School, and I helped solve problems for my classmates, and helped them with all-round development. Standing on the broad platform built by the University, fully engaged and growing rapidly, I gradually came out of the haze and became the person who was willing to endure hardships and love to work hard in the eyes of teachers and students, and always wear a smile on my face. The blade of the sword is sharpened, and the fragrance of plum blossoms comes from the bitter cold. On the long journey of life, we will encounter many difficulties, but as long as we have dreams and strive hard, difficulties will become the "lever" of life, so that youth will bloom the most beautiful light.
The way to be a successful man lies in having the world in mind. I came from Jiayuguan, Gansu Province. I once made it my goal to escape from my economically underdeveloped hometown. However, four years of living in Tianjin University changed my perception. In a sense, the profound history of Tianjin University is a vivid textbook, which always guides us to adhere to the mission of "rejuvenating the country through education". I often think about what I should do as a TJUer. As an undergraduate, I can contribute to rural revitalization. Therefore, I chose to join the postgraduate student teaching support group, going to Gansu to teach for a year. I returned to the yellow land where I was raised, pluged in the wings of dreams for the children in the mountains, did something for my elders in my hometown, and contributed to the revitalization of the countryside!
Dear classmates, let’s always remember what our alma mater teaches us, uphold Tianjin University character, set sail, and embark on a glorious journey together!
