On the morning of June 27, 2023, Tianjin University’s commencement and degree-granting ceremony for the Class of 2023 undergraduates was held at Weijin Road Campus. Thousands of students join their families and friends at the ceremony to share their happiness and academic success. Party Secretary Yang Xianjin, President Jin Donghan and outstanding alumni representative Lin Songhua attend the ceremony. In addition, 208 former undergraduates are invited back to complete their missed ceremonies.

"Congratulations to all the graduates, sincere welcome to the alumni who returned home today, and heartfelt thanks to the staff members who have guided you and the families who care and support you!" Jin Donghan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Tianjin University extends his warm wishes to the graduates, and encourages them to cultivate their "Tianjin University spirit" after graduation.

Jin asks all the graduates to continue to be a Tianjin University people (TJUer) after leaving the campus. As a TJUer, you should be ambitions and have the motherland and the people in mind, and be a useful person to them. As a TJUer, you should to be rooted in this country and to be a pioneer and hero in service to the people. As a TJUer, you should be able to repay others’ kindness and be grateful for every success and failure. As a TJUer, you should be the "shining person" who illuminates the path of others with your own light. As a TJUer, you should be brave. "The country has expectations for you, the school has a duty to you, and the society demands you. In the future, when the storm comes, I hope you won’t be afraid or shrink back. I hope you all have the courage to stand up to the storm!"

Li Yuli, a "post-00s generation" student at the School of Science and the co-first author of a paper published in the prestigious international academic journal "Science", delivers a speech as a valedictorian and bid farewell to his alma mater.

"I can't help but think about my own journey along my way, from being a confused freshman to a graduate with goals and aspirations. It’s been a lot of hard work and sweat, and it also gave me huge growth and inspiration. Tianjin University has provided me with abundant academic resources and a great learning environment, allowing me to constantly challenge myself and surpass myself!"

At the end of the ceremony, all the graduates sang the school song. The ceremony does not mean the end of their academic careers, but a new beginning for them to persist in their great character and struggle tirelessly for Chinese-style modernization.
