On April 26, 2023, the results of the 2022 Tianjin Science and Technology Awards were announced at the Tianjin Science and Technology Award Conference and the deployment meeting for the implementation of revitalizing the city with talents through science and education. The awards include 18 natural science awards, 8 technological invention awards and 174 scientific and technological progress awards. Tianjin University has made significant progress, with 57 achievements receiving the Tianjin Science and Technology Award, making a new record.
Among the 57 awards won by Tianjin University, 25 were completed by Tianjin University as the first completion unit, including 2 special grand prizes, 15 first prizes and 8 second prizes (5 natural science prizes, 4 technological invention prizes and 16 scientific and technological progress prizes). These achievements were mainly completed by faculty members from School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, School of Civil Engineering, School of Electrical and Information Engineering, School of Environmental Science and Engineering, School of Science, School of Precision Instrument and Opto-Electronics Engineering, School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering, College of Intelligence and Computing, School of Microelectronics, School of Earth System Science and Medical College.
On the one hand, the winning achievements mainly involves Tianjin University's traditional dominant disciplines, such as chemical engineering, materials, chemistry, power, and machines. On the other hand, significant advances have been made in geoscience, computer science, environmental protection, electronics, transportation, medical care, land and resources, and other fields. Tianjin University has achieved preliminary results in improving the ability of original innovation in multidisciplinary fields and solving technical problems in key fields.
The project “High Performance Molecular Photoelectric Materials and Devices”, led by Professor Hu Wenping from the School of Science, was awarded the 2022 Special Grand Prize for Natural Science by Tianjin government. The project “Key Manufacturing Technology and Industrial Application of Free-form Optical System”, led by Professor Zhang Xiaodong from School of Precision Instrument and Opto-Electronics Engineering, was awarded the 2022 Special Grand Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress by Tianjin government.
Only 51 special and first prizes were given out at the 2022 Tianjin Science and Technology Award, and Tianjin University received one-third of them. Tianjin University set records for both the overall number of awards and the number of special and first prizes won, placing it first among all Tianjin reporting units. Additionally, the Tianjin University-affiliated hospital, which was first nominated, was awarded the First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress (Medical and Health Group).
In addition, Tianjin University won three First Prizes for Natural Science at the conference. The three projects were:
“Reaction Mechanism of Hydrogen Production by Heterogeneous Catalysis” led by Professor Gong Jinlong from the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology,
“Isotope Source Analysis of Environmental Heavy Metal Pollution” led by Professor Chen Jiubin from the School of Earth System Science,
“Research on Preparation and Application Basis of Three-dimensional Graphene Composites in Situ Guided by Salt Template/Interface” led by Professor He Chunnian from the School of Materials Science and Engineering.
Three projects from Tianjin University won the First Prize for Technological Invention. They were:
“Key Technology and Application of High-Efficient and Stable Combustion of Engines under Wide Working Conditions” led by Professor Wei Haiqiao from the School of Mechanical Engineering,
“Key Technology and Application of In Situ Broadband Multi-field Reliability Detection” led by Professor Chen Gang from the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology,
“Advanced Membrane Material Preparation Technology and Its Application in Water Environment” led by Professor Chen Guanyi from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering.
Professor Liu Donghai from the School of Architecture, Professor Xu Jiangtao from the School of Microelectronics, Professor Xu Wanhai from the School of Architecture, Professor Qiu Tie from the College of Intelligence and Computing, Professor Yang Jingyu from the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, Professor Wang Shouxiang from the College of Management and Economics, Professor Du Huibin from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, and Professor Ma Xinlong from the Medical College were all awarded First Prizes for Scientific and Technological Progress for their achievements.
