On May 13, the 2023 International Open Day of Tianjin University (TJU) kicked off on the same day of the 13th TJU International Cultural Festival, attracting many international students outside the University to attend. 41 international students from 17 countries, including Pakistan, Nepal, Russia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, came to Tianjin University and participated in various activities, such as presentations on admission policy, admission consultation, school and laboratory visits, experience-sharing meetings, campus tour and so on, through which they directly got details about all aspects of Tianjin University and learned the international atmosphere on campus.
During the presentation, teachers from International Admissions Office gave a comprehensive introduction to the university’s history, its discipline strength, admission and scholarship policies and the campus facilities. Two international student ambassadors, Timothy and Aadarsha, answered questions about application process, admission requirements, suggestions and so on.
After that, international students visited the Institute of Molecular Plus and the School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology. They were shown advanced laboratory instruments and equipment and learned about TJU’s contributions to national development strategy, research in fundamental science and interdisciplinary integration. A number of students who are planning to apply for a Ph.D. have shown a keen interest.
Touring around the campus, they were impressed by not only the beauty of campus including the lush vegetation and sparkling lakes, but also the profound heritage of Tianjin University, the oldest institution in the modern history of China. Walking to the flag wall just unveiled by School of International Education that day, many students stopped and felt a sense of belonging to their own country.
Diverse and fulfilling as the activities were, there were many international students still being immersed at the end of the International Open Day. Through this event, they gained a further understanding of Tianjin University and generated a strong expectation to become a member of TJUers in the future. In addition, some of them expressed the will to be active participator in the International Open Day in the future, hoping to have face-to-face communication with professors from various colleges and schools.
The International Open Day not only allows international students to enjoy the atmosphere at century-old Tianjin University, but also serves as a platform for them to communicate with each other.
