Tianjin University swimming team claimed two gold, one silver and two bronze awards in the the 21st China University Swimming Championship held in the natatorium of Haicang Sports Center in Xiamen from March 26 to April 1.

There was a fierce competition between 627 athletes from 61 universities including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Tianjin University and the University of Macao, including seven athletes from Tianjin University high-level swimming squad.

In the pre-competition training, the swimming squad conducted regular health monitoring for the athletes. Seven athletes from the College of Management and Economics kept their intensive training during the winter vacation.

The athletes selected by Tianjin University for this competition were mainly first-year students. All but one athlete made it to the final. As a freshman, undergraduate Liu Boyuan made his debut in the competition on behalf of Tianjin University swimming squad. After he completed the men’s 50m freestyle final, the coach gave him timely guidance based on his performance. In the subsequent 100m freestyle final, Liu Boyuan stood out among 33 athletes with 51.93 seconds and won the silver medal. Mao Qi broke his personal best in the men’s group C 50m breaststroke final and won a bronze medal among 35 competitors. Wang Boya is also a first-year undergraduate student. She overcame such pre-competition factors as unfavorable grouping and claimed the gold medal in the women’s group C 200m backstroke final, achieving a breakthrough for Tianjin University in winning the first gold in this event at the national championship. Li Bohan, the man’s 200m breaststroke champion at the 14th Student Sports Games of China, clinched his double at this Championship.
