【Crabapple Blossom Festival】Activities by the School of Humanities and Arts

During the Crabapple Blossom Festival at Tianjin University, a series of activities were held at the School of Humanities and Arts of Tianjin University. Lv Jing, Party Secretary of the School of Humanities and Arts, together with faculty, students, alumni and citizens participated in the activities.

As soon as the festival began, visitors flocked to Wang Xuezhong Art Institute and turned it as a hotspot for art lovers. The annual exhibition of Tianjin University Calligraphy and Painting Association was held there as an open course of art aesthetics. At the exhibition, visitors enjoy various kinds of artworks including calligraphy, traditional Chinese paintings, seal cuttings, western paintings, handicrafts and photographs. And all of these exquisite works are done by the faculty of Tianjin University.

At the Research Institute of Fine Brush Painting, an appreciation activity of A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains, a well-known ancient Chinese painting by artist Wang Ximeng, was held. Cao Tiewa, associate professor of the Research Institute of Fine Brush Painting, delivered a lecture on the appreciation of A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains, leading visitors to explore the history of the national treasure. A replica of the painting was also on display in order to provide more convenience for visitors to stay close to the wonderful painting and feel its artistic charm.

After that, the institute teachers explained the key techniques of fine brush painting in detail, and guided visitors to reproduce parts of the painting with prepared rice papers and brushes. During the activities, visitors gained a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese painting, and recognized that traditional art has carried the civilization and memory of the Chinese nation, and evolved with the times to reveal a greater sense of vitality and history.

In addition, a highly simulated replica of the painting was partially enlarged and hung on the west wall of the Research Institute of Fine Brush Painting for appreciation, attracting lots of visitors to take photos.

Han-style clothing themed activities were held at Wang Xuezhong Art Research Institute. Sun Rui, Associate Professor of Wang Xuezhong Art Research Institute, delivered a lecture on the development of Han-style clothing and the beauty of traditional Chinese clothing in terms of its culture, formation and colors. Dressed in Han costume, some of participants performed a walk show under crabapple trees to showcase the beauty of traditional Chinese costumes, attracting many visitors to stop by. There are also visitors reading poems and making crafts surrounded by crabapple flowers, which created an artistic atmosphere that blends traditional aesthetics with modern leisure pursuits.

A crabapple blossom themed sketching activity was held by Liu Jun, Associate Professor of Wang Xuezhong Art Research Institute, which drew a number of teachers, students and citizens who are interested in painting to stop by and participate in it. Visitors worked together to paint the beautiful spring scenery of Tianjin University Campus in various forms such as traditional Chinese painting, watercolor painting, sketching and computer painting.
