Peiyang Chorus Wins the Gold Medal

The 2023 Brahms International Winter Choral Festival came to a success conclusion. The festival featured a total of 170 choirs from 24 countries participated in the festival. Peiyang Chorus of Tianjin University was awarded the Gold Medal of Brahms Portfolio Group with a remarkable performance.

Brahms International Choral Competition and Music Festival is recognized as an international event of great professional value. 2023 is the 190th anniversary of the birth of the famous German composer Johannes Brahms. As a tribute to this great composer, "In Memory of the 190th Anniversary of the Birth of Johannes Brahms -- 2023 Brahms International Winter Choral Festival" took place this year in the Austrian city of Mürzzuschlag from 9 to 19 January. The year 2023 also coincides with the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Mürzzuschlag city. Since the start of the New Year, the 2023 Brahms International Winter Chorus Festival has been one of the most important artistic activities since the beginning of the New Year. After more than 100 days of preparatory work and a collection of works, 170 choirs from 24 countries, such as China, the United States, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain, Sweden and so on, have presented the most charming and harmonious chorus of all ages to the world.

The competition’s judges are composed of world's famous musicians, composers, conductors and educators. Based on the performance of the participating teams, they nominated the winners of the gold, silver, bronze, excellent team and other prizes in various groups.

On January 19, the 2023 Brahms International Winter Choral Festival came to a successful conclusion. On November 27, 2022, Peiyang Chorus made a recording of the sehn sucht composed by Brahms at the Datong Student Activity Center on Peiyang Campus, and presented it to the Brahms Collection at the Festival (Category G: Johannes Brahms Group).

After almost half a month of judging, Peiyang Chorus won the gold medal after nearly half a month of jury review. Through a rewarding experience of sweat and tears, they have honed their will and improved their skills.

Founded in 1985, Peiyang Chorus has grown into a high-level art group for college students and has been nominated by the country to participate in international art competitions on numerous occasions. As they have won gold medals in numerous international choral competitions, they have received the title of " the Chorus of the World" from the International Choral Union. Their singing has become an "artistic name card" to show the spirit of Chinese university students around the world.
