On the afternoon of December 28, the opening ceremony of Haitang Science and Innovation Park and Tianjin University Science and Technology Park (Jinnan District) was held in Jinan District, Tianjin.
Zhu Peng, Vice Mayor of Tianjin, Jin Donghan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Tianjin University attended the ceremony and delivered speeches.
Vice Mayor Zhu Peng hoped that all parties could work together to deepen strategic collaborations, integrate resources and production factors, promote integration between industry and education, and between science and education, and explore the implementation of market-oriented operation mechanism, so as to facilitate deeper integration of the education, talent, industrial, and innovation chains. In doing so, more scientific and technological advances will be incubated in Jinan District and Tianjin, which injects powerful impetus into the high-quality development of Tianjin.
President Jin Donghan stated in his speech that the opening of Tianjin University Science and Technology Park (Jinnan District) marks a new stage of the strategic cooperation between Jinnan District and Tianjin University in innovation, entrepreneurship and commercialization of technological achievements. He stressed that guided by the demand- and technology-driven development strategy, Tianjin University works to build the science park into an important carrier for the development of new technologies, industries, business formats and models, and accelerate the commercialization of more scientific and technological achievements in Tianjin, so as to contribute greater wisdom to build Tianjin into a highly innovation-driven city and promote local economic and social development.
Governor of Jinnan District Yang Hao pointed out that in the next step, Jinnan District will continue to motivate the collaborative innovation between industries, universities, and research institutes, redouble efforts to harness technological achievements to boost productivity, further integrate industrial education and sci-tech talents, and work to foster a sound environment featuring a virtuous circle and mutual trust and assistance. He said, Jinnan District will devote great energy to promote the development of enterprises and social innovation, build the demonstration zone into a vehicle for the commercialization of technological research results and the cradle of new momentum, provide quality services for scientists and entrepreneurs in university science parks, in order to build a broad stage for innovation and entrepreneurship.
Liu Yi, founding partner of Peiyang Crabapple Foundation, pointed out that in recent years, Tianjin University has built vigorous ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship proceeding, made remarkable achievements in the fields of technology exchange, resource sharing and in-depth cooperation, eastablished an innovation-oriented circle of scientists, investors and entrepreneurs and formed ecosystem’s three major pillars including Peiyang Crabapple Foundation, Tianjin University Science and Technology Park, and Entrepreneurship Club for innovation and entrepreneurship. He stressed that they will work to foster a more open and inclusive environment for innovation and entrepreneurship in Tianjin, and accelerate the formation of “Stanford + Silicon Valley” model at Tianjin University.

Tianjin University Science and Technology Park (Jinnan District) is jointly built by the People’s Government of Jinnan District and Tianjin University, and operated by Peiyang Crabapple Foundation. The three parties cooperate to bring scientists, investors and entrepreneurs together, and give full play to the core functions of the Park, including high-tech achievement commercialization, business incubation, resource gathering, personnel training and collaborative innovation. By integrating regional resources and production factors, they strive to promote deeper integration of the education, talent, and industrial chains, so that more research results will be turned into production in Jinnan District and more talented students of Tianjin University and Nankai University will have an opportunity to realize their dreams in Tianjin.
Located in Jinnan District, Tianjin, the Science and Technology Park, with an area of 15,000 square meters, makes full use of the advantages of Tianjin University and Jinnan District. There have been 35 registered/relocated enterprises, among which technology enterprises account for up to 85%. In the future, Tianjin University Science and Technology Park (Jinnan Distrcit) will be built into a demonstration zone of innovation-oriented industrial parks and a strong engine for green and high-quality development of Jinnan District, so as to promote the formation of “Stanford + Silicon Valley” model of Tianjin University, and build a Silicon Valley in Tianjin with Tianjin University feature.
