On January 9, 2023, Tianjin University inaugurated the Research Center for Corporate Compliance (RCCC) and held the first working conference.
Jointly established by Tianjin Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision, Tianjin Municipal People's Procuratorate, Tianjin Municipal Security and Stability Advisory Committee, Tianjin Federation of Industry and Commerce and Tianjin University, the research center will follow Chinese President Xi Jinping’s instruction that “The rule of law is the most favorable environment for business” and that “(We should) raise corporate competitiveness in lawful operations”. As the Director of the Research Centre, Professor Liu Shuang from Tianjin University’s Law School put it, the center has four major objectives including providing a high-end platform for corporate compliance research, building a high-end think tank for government and judiciary, offering a series of social services for corporate compliance, and promoting a LLM program to cultivate “Chief Compliance Officers”.
Prof. Sun Youhai, Dean of TJU’s Law School will head the research center.
“At present, international competition is reflected more in the clashes of rules and laws. Chinese enterprises are facing increasingly complex domestic and international environment and severe risk challenges. So it is necessary to accelerate the level of compliance management in accordance with the law and ensure that the tasks outlined by China’s new development concepts and new development pattern are steadily carried out on the track of the rule of law. It is timely and significant to build a high-level RCCC at Tianjin University.” said Professor Sun, “We will strive to build a high-end platform for corporate compliance, and a regional leading and domestic first-class high-end think tank. With the joint efforts of all parties involved in RCCC, we will serve the high-quality development of Tianjin's economy and society and make new and greater contributions to the construction of a modern socialist country in all respects!”
Representatives from Tianjin University, the Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision, the Municipal People’s Procuratorate, the Municipal Security and Stability Advisory Committee, and the Municipal Federation of Industry and Commerce attended the conference.
