On October 31, 2022, the Association to Advance College Schools of Business (AACSB) issued an official announcement stating that, as voted by the Initial Accreditation Committee (IAC) and approved by the Board of Directors, the Collage of Management and Economics (CoME) of Tianjin University officially passed the AACSB international certification, with a certification period of 5 years.
The certification indicates that the CoME’s work in talent training, scientific research, administrative management and social services has been recognized by the most authoritative certification body of international business education. It is a major progress in high-quality development and the process of internationalization, and will also provide faculty members, students and alumni with a higher level of international cooperation and exchange platform. So far, the CoME has successively passed the AMBA, CAMEA and AACSB business education certification.
The official letter mentioned that, “AACSB accreditation recognizes institutions that have demonstrated a focus on excellence in all areas, including teaching, research, curriculum development, and student learning. Tianjin University’s commitment to earning accreditation is a true reflection of their dedication—not only to their students, alumni network, and greater business community, but to the higher education industry as a whole. Today’s students are tomorrow’s business leaders, and the addition of the College of Management and Economics to the network of AACSB-accredited business schools will have a lasting positive impact for their institution, both locally and globally”.
From July 5 to 8, 2022, the CoME of Tianjin University accepted a virtual visit from the AACSB accreditation peer review team. Professor Robert F. Scherer, Dean of Michael Nedorf School of Business of Trinity University, served as the team chair, and Professor Edwin CHENG, Dean of Business School of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Professor Wang Zhaohua, Dean of the School of Management and Economics of Beijing Polytechnic University served as the team members. During the 4-day visit, the peer review team conducted 14 strict interviews and evaluations, communicating with 120 faculty members, students, alumni and representatives of administrative personnel on the strategic and financial management, scientific research and social services, faculty management support, teaching quality assurance and curriculum management, student and alumni support of the College. Yang Xianjin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin University held talks with the peer review team. This virtual visit left a deep impression on the review team, who spoke highly of the work of the College. In the future,under the guidance of themission that We develop leaders with fact-based thinking, an innovative spirit, and social responsibility awareness through the creation, application, dissemination, and integration of management, economics, and engineering knowledge,the CoME will continue to improve discipline construction, talent cultivation, faculty development and become a distinctive, platform based, comprehensive and high-level economic management school with extensive influence and creativity.
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) was founded in the United States in 1916. It was first jointly initiated by business schools of 17 well-known universities, including Columbia University, Cornell University, Harvard University, New York University, Northwestern University, University of California, Berkeley, and University of Chicago, to promote schools that have been certified and applied for certification to improve their student admission standards, level of teaching and management. AACSB is the longest-serving global accrediting body for business schools, and the largest business education platform connecting students, educators, and businesses worldwide. The AACSB accreditation system is recognized worldwide for its rigor and high standards.In view of its authority, business schools all over the world take passing its certification audit as an important standard to measure their level of running a school.
After more than a hundred years of development, AACSB's norms and evaluation standards have become the authoritative standards of global management education, and less than 6 percent of business schools worldwide hold AACSB business accreditation.
