On September 30th, the 2022 Smart Ocean Month for Future Maritime Leaders was held online. This activity was co-hosted by the School of Marine Science and Technology, Tianjin University (SMST, TJU) and Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) of Indonesia. H.E. Djauhari Oratmangun, Indonesian Ambassador to China, Prof. Wenping Hu, Vice President of TJU, Prof. Bambang Pramujati, Vice Rector of ITS, Yaya Sutarya, Education Counselor of Indonesian Embassy in China, Prof. Jingsheng Zhai, Dean of SMST and Xiaolin Shan, Party Secretary of SMST, and more than 100 teachers and students from ASEAN-China participated the online course.
During his speech, H.E. Djauhari Oratmangun pointed out that Indonesia and China share the same goal in terms of sustainable development and face common challenges including climate change and ocean protection issues. This July, President H.E. Joko Widodo met with Chairman Jinping Xi in Beijing. Joint Press Statement on the Bilateral Meeting between the two parties was published. Within the Framework on the Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Initiative and Global Maritime Fulcrum, Indonesia and China have been developing smoothly and fruitfully. 2022 Smart Ocean Month for Future Maritime Leaders, as well as the 2022 ASEAN-China “Learning about Ocean” Student Film Competition has provided a broad learning platform for Indonesia-China and ASEAN -China students, expanded the dimension of bilateral educational cooperation and deepened humanistic exchanges. He expects the young people from China and Indonesia could participate actively in the Blue Economy. As the Indonesian Ambassador to China, he hopes more cooperation and greater efforts for the people-to-people friendship cause between Indonesia and China.
Wenping Hu said that under the umbrella of ACNET-EngTech, TJU and ITS have achieved substantially in promoting faculty and student exchange, collaborative research and outreach as a platform as well as a bridge. 2019 China-ASEAN Universities Rowing Race, ASEAN-China ‘Learning about Ocean’, Smart Ocean Month for Future Maritime Leaders are all held successfully, nearly 2,000 ASEAN students have shown their attitudes and stories on Smart Ocean with us. Smart Ocean Education Project has been a typical brand in humanities education exchanges between China and Indonesia. The radiation-driven role of the alliance and the "cloud" platform for knowledge exchange in the post-epidemic era has been actively demonstrated. Bambang Pramujati, fully affirmed the long-term cooperation with Tianjin University and expressed his willingness to take this project as an opportunity to jointly promote cooperation between the two universities in the fields of humanities, education and science and technology.
During the lectures, Prof. Widi Agoes Pratikto of ITS and Associate Prof. Chen Zhang of SMST presented The Second IORA Ministerial Blue Economy Conference:‘Financing Blue Economy’Lesson Learned from CTI CFF and Marine Energy: From the Ocean to the Ocean respectively. Professor Raja Saut Gurning moderated the Q&A session later.
SMST has established a long-term and stable cooperation with ITS. A series of marine education courses and activities, have benefited more than 1,000 teachers and students. It is reported that SMST-TJU and ITS hold 2022 Smart Ocean Month for Future Maritime Leaders in September and October to raise the awareness of marine protection, inspire the enthusiasm on the Smart Ocean for Chinese and Indonesian youths, promote the establishment of ASEAN-China Blue Economy Partnership and help achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
