 Campus

From August 20 to 22, 2022, the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology of Tianjin University hosted 2022 Online Summer Program for International Students entitled Chemical Engineering for A Sustainable Future.

This program attracted over 180 high school students, undergraduates and postgraduates from 20 countries, including Malaysia, Pakistan, Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand, Bangladesh, Venezuela, Nigeria and Cambodia.

The program courses contained a series of fascinating activities, including academic reports, online visits to national labs, online experience of virtual simulation experiments, cultural exchange and exhibitions of student activities, displaying the contributions and achievements by Tianjin University’s chemical engineering on talent training, scientific research and community service.

The three-day program focused on how chemical engineering facilitates sustainable development of human beings. Associate professor Li Maoshuai, Professor Liu Xinlei, Associate Professor Gao Zhenguo, Professor Zhang Yumiao, Professor Wang Fumin, Professor Gao Xin, Professor Fei Chunlei, Professor Zhang Fei, Research Associate Chen Yifei, Associate Professor Liu Hongli, Associate Professor Lou Shi Nee, Associate Professor He Guangwei, Professor Feng Yakai, Associate Professor Xue Zhaohui, Lecturer Tang Weiwei, Senior engineers Xiao Xiaoming and Qixiang Juan from the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology lectured on C1 chemical engineering technologies, membrane science and technology, crystallization science and technology, application of chemical technology in biomedical engineering, study on microwave-induced microscopic hot-spots, perovskite optoelectronic devices, biomass energy, development and application of high-efficiency catalysts, application of OLED&QLED display devices, functional polymer materials, functional food technologies, respectively. virtual simulation experiment and popularization of chemical engineering, respectively.

Professor Yin Xiaojing and Mr. Liu Wenwei, Director of International Admissions Office from the School of International Education, introduced the Chinese culture and TJU’s admission policy respectively.

Undergraduates Hou Weiqi, Chen Zhenglin, Xue Jing, Meng Wenlu, postgraduate Li Shuangyang, and PhD international student Suleiman Gasim Sebit Ahmed from the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology shared their campus study and life experience including the Chem-E-Car competition, iGEM competition and students’ innovation and entrepreneurship projects.

Besides, professor Chin Sim Yee from Universiti Malaysia Pahang and assistant professor Sira Srinives from Mahidol University in Thailand gave lectures about the impact of Industry Revolution 4.0 on chemical engineers and Photocatalytic Conversion of CO2 respectively.

The international students who participated in the three-day program regarded it notably rewarding. For them, the courses not only developed their understanding of chemical engineering, but left them a deeper impression on China's higher education, education mode, education quality, new technologies and how international students are cultivated and developed in China. Besides, the academic progress introduced during the activity demonstrated the Chinese wisdom and the Chinese creation.
