In August 2022, Liu Boda, a postgraduate student from the School of Microelectronics, Tianjin University, acquiredOutstanding Student Paper Awardwith his paper calledSLSL Automotive Radar Integrated Bulter Matrix and Six-port Receiverpublished in the National Conference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave (NCMMW), a top conference in domestic microwave circle. Liu Boda is the first author of this paper, under the guidance of professors Ma Kaixue, Wang Yongqiang and Yan Ningning.

With the popularity of autonomous driving technology, millimeter wave radar becomes the main sensor for advanced driver assistance systems. The research focus on reducing the cost of millimeter radar and improving system integration. This study, via the Substrate Integrated Suspended Line (SLSL) integrated circuit and systematic technology, based on the mechanism of Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave, proposes automotive radar front-end circuits for 24.5 GHz to 26.5 GHz and achieves the integration between Butler Matrix and Six-port microwave circuit. This kind of radar adopts the concept of honeycomb design and achieves integration among micro passive circuit, active circuit, rectenna array, device and chip on the SLSL platform. Such a radar is low-cost, self-encapsulating and light-weighted. With the help of Butler Matrix, it is successful in scanning beam, measuring distance, speed and angle, which offers a new method and platform for microwave millimeter wave circuit system.

National Conference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave is the most professional and authoritative in the domestic micro area. In this conference, 427 papers are accepted. Through presentation and experts’ evaluation, six papers were selected as outstanding papers.
