The 3rd “WeiRui Cup” National Chemistry Experiment Innovation and Design Competition For College Students Final was held online at Xiamen University from August 21 to 24, 2022. The innovative experiment work made by Du Yanqi, Li Rujing and Yang Jitong from the Applied Chemistry of the School of Science—Click Construction of Positive Supramolecular Chirality Medium and Efficient Amino Acid Splitting - Comprehensive Experiment of Chiral Split Workshop scooped the National Grand Prize. The instructors are Professor Wang Yong and Engineer Jin Xiaoning from the School of Science.
In addition, another two works both won the first prizes in the competition of North China Division. One is Controllable Synthesis of Multicolor Fluorescent Semiconductor Quantum Dots and Its Fingerprint Identification Application,an innovative experiment work made by undergraduates Chen Zhijian, Dang Lei and Ni Hongzhen, guided by Professor Tao Minli and A.P. Liu Huaji, and the other is Improvement of Hydrogen Peroxide Catalytic Decomposition Reaction Device and Optimization of Experimental Content, an improved experiment work made by undergraduates Hou Xinlong, Wang Yunan and Wang Silu, guided by Professor Zhu Lina and Engineer Shao Songxue.
National Chemistry Experiment Innovation and Design Competition For College Students is held by the Chinese Chemical Society and National Demonstration Center For Experimental Education. The competition sets up three categories: innovative experiments, improved experiments and science experiments, aiming to cultivate college students’ innovative consciousness, initiative spirit and innovation ability and promote the reform of chemistry experimental teaching in China's higher education institutions. This chemistry competition is most influential in China, attracting 410 colleges and universities, 908 teams and 2,724 students to participate in. After the fierce competition, 90 teams entered the national finals. And finally, 18 grand prizes, 33 first prizes, and 39 second prizes were awarded.
The achievement marks a great breakthrough in undergraduate education of the School of Science, which fully reflects the teaching purpose of "student-oriented". The School will deepen the education reform of new engineering chemistry to promote the high-quality development of chemistry education.
