The "one-stop" volunteer service, small gifts, and "green channel" with "love packages".... On August 25, more than 7,000 postgraduate students entered Tianjin University. The warm and caring orientation services and diverse campus culture made the new students feel the warmth and enthusiasm of this University.
At both campuses of Tianjin University, the slogan "Welcome, Class of 2026!" was particularly eye-catching and festive. Welcome stations were set up at Tianjin Station, Tianjin West Station, Tianjin South Station and Tianjin Airport to bring new students to the campuses by bus. TJU also arranged a number of ferry vehicles at both campuses and organized nearly 1,000 volunteers to help new students carry their luggage and finish their procedures.
To ensure that new students from financially difficult families have a smooth start to their studies, Tianjin University continues to provide a “green channel” for new students at the “one-stop” Student Community Management Service Centers on both campuses to reduce their worries.
To help new students adapt to university life better and faster, each school and college has prepared unique activities and gifts to welcome new students according to their own characteristics. At the tent of the School of Mechanical Engineering, a dazzling blue slogan "Welcome New Mechanical Talent" attracted new students. The volunteers wore the unique masks of their school and served the new students in an orderly manner.
At the tent of the School of Marxism, two new students smilingly posed for a photo holding the "Chinese Red" sign, leaving their first exclusive memories on campus.
Volunteers from the School of Civil Engineering solemnly handed over badges to the new students, symbolizing the inheritance of the spirit of the school.
The gifts prepared by the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology for the new students include a specially designed "Anti-Internet Fraud Handbook", which is intended to remind everyone to raise awareness.
To meet the daily needs of new students, the College of Intelligence and Computing have prepared a number of gifts for the new students: a small fan, a multi-functional USB charging port and a cute little desk lamp.
The College of Management and Economics has thoughtfully tied the student card and the dormitory key together for the convenience of new students, and has also developed a unique "Economics and Management Cultural and Creative" app, enabling new students to purchase a souvenir by scanning the code to deepen their understanding of the college.
"When you enter the Medical College, you are part of the family!" Due to the hot weather, the medical students prepared mineral water for each new student at the tent.
At the tent of the School of New Media and Communication, the "2022" on the hand-painted board is composed of the last Chinese character of the total of 37 new students’ names and the name of the school. The counsellor Liu Heng said, "We hope that students will have a sense of belonging to our school through this way.”
The "Quiz" activity of the School of Precision Instrument and Opto-electronics Engineering was a lot of fun for the new students: "Where is Hai Xiaotang?", "What is the full name of our School?", "What is the date of the School Day?" In this way, new students can win small gifts by answering these questions and get to know the school and the university more quickly.
"Swish, swish, swish", the School of Architecture captured the arrival scene of each new student on camera, developed the photos on site and hung them together with the wind chimes in front of the tent. Volunteer Wang Jiayu introduced, "The windmills symbolize good luck, the wind chimes represent greetings, and the photos are the starting point of new memories, which is a sense of ritual to welcome new students."
This year, the newly established College of Humanities and Arts is the "youngest" one at Tianjin University. At the tent, faculty and students of the college wrote the university motto "Seeking Truth from Facts" with Chinese brushes and presented their works to the new students. The calligraphy work "New Youth in Literature and Art" and Gongbi painting (a style of Traditional Chinese painting) also showed the vigor and vitality of this new college.
The new student from the School of Marxism, Lu Shun, was very excited as he wandered around the beautiful campus. "As a retired college student soldier, I have returned from the army to the university, and the long-lost academic atmosphere has enchanted me immensely." Two years ago, Lu Shun enlisted in the army with a sincere ideal. In addition to training, he has been strengthening his theoretical study and become very interested in it. "'Seeking truth from facts' is the essence of Marxist thinking. The motto of Tianjin University is in line with my creed of life and academic pursuit." Speaking of his bond with TJU, Lu Shun speaks with determination and pride.
"Just seeing the two Chinese characters for 'Peiyang' on the university's emblem makes me excited!" Yu Fengyi is one of China's first interdisciplinary master's students in intangible cultural heritage and will be studying at Feng Jicai Institute of Literature and Art, Tianjin University. Yu Fengyi has always regarded Tianjin University as her "dream university" during her long journey of study. She can't conceal her excitement as she walks around the campus. She arrived early at the institute and silently made a wish in front of the popular koi carp symbolizing "good luck" - "Intangible cultural heritage is both a testimony to human history and an identity that has been confirmed and reconstructed over generations. So, it needs someone to do forward-looking research and academic studies, and someone to implement policies and measures for the protection and development of intangible cultural heritage." When it comes to her future academic studies and career plans, Yu Fengyi hopes to contribute to the preservation of intangible cultural heritage in her lifetime!
