On the afternoon of April 29, Xuanhuai School of Tianjin University (TJU) held a unique opening ceremony for the class minoring in Business Administration (Innovation and Entrepreneurship) on Vland.site - a Metaverse online site. 

Gong Jinlong, Vice President of TJU, Liu Yi, entrepreneurship mentor of Xuanhuai School and President of Andon Health Co., Ltd., Yang Xiaofeng, entrepreneurship mentor of Xuanhuai School and President of Tianjin Fruitech Co., Ltd., Shi Liangxing, Dean of Xuanhuai School, and Wu Wenqing, Deputy Dean of Xuanhuai School attended the ceremony.

This opening ceremony was held in a special online venue in Metaverse, providing an appealing and immersive interactive experience for students who cannot meet offline at present on both Weijin Road Campus and Peiyangyuan Campus. Technology, Virtual Reality, immersion and interaction are the keywords of the Metaverse. The choice to infuse this hottest concept into the ceremony also expressed the sincere expectations of Xuanhuai School to students. The school hopes to foster students’ awareness of entrepreneurship and innovation, stimulate their motivation in this respect and cultivate students’ thinking and practical ability of entrepreneurship and innovation, so as to train innovative talents.

At the ceremony, Vice President Gong Jinlong delivered a speech. He said that TJU is improving the quality of talent training in an all-round way, including the cultivation of innovative and entrepreneurial talents. In today’s world faced by profound changes unseen in a century, innovation-driven development has become the consensus and common action of the whole society. Gong wishes that students make good use of their time and the platform of the minor degree in Business Administration (Innovation and Entrepreneurship) at Xuanhuai School, and, with the support of the university, alumni and entrepreneurship mentors, accumulate knowledge and gain experience to pursue and explore a better future.

Then, Liu Yi, entrepreneurship mentor of Xuanhuai School and president of Andon Health Co., Ltd., gave the first lecture - "Great Opportunities for TJU in the Era of Internet of Everything" to the students. From internet, the Internet of Things to artificial intelligence, Liu Yi expatiated upon the importance of technological innovation and talents of innovation and entrepreneurship to students with straightforward examples and stories. He said that technological innovation is a distinct character of TJU. Many entrepreneurial achievements of TJU people are very “hardcore”, and have become the first in respective fields, such as inertial navigation, pipeline robot, meteorological data collection and future display materials. He said that students here are from different colleges and majors, and hopes that they can, like their predecessors, seize the great opportunity for TJU, play their role in the tide of the times, and advance the noble cause for both TJU and the country.

The students said that they have benefited a lot. After proactively interacting with Liu Yi, they also expounded their views on entrepreneurs in the new era. Jin Jiayi, director of the Entrepreneurship Counseling Office of Xuanhuai School, affirmed the views of the students. 

Students Expressing Views

Afterwards, students gathered in groups and discussed what they hoped to gain from their minor degree study in the future. Subsequent to listening to the expectations of students, Shi Liangxing, Dean of Xuanhuai School, expressed his gratitude to the students for their trust in choosing Xuanhuai School, and appreciated their expectations for future study and life. Xuanhuai School, established in the 120th year since the founding of TJU, is a school of innovation and entrepreneurship named after Sheng Xuanhuai, founder of the University. Mr. Sheng Chengmao, great-grandson of Sheng Xuanhuai, praised that Sheng Xuanhuai creatively interpreted “Reform and Innovation” by stating the vicissitudes in business, and testified “Practice” in his endeavour to save and strengthen the country. Therefore, the Xuanhuai School, committing to the mission of “Reform, Innovation and Practice”，expects that students can discard the stale and introduce the new, acquiring advanced knowledge as well as the ability to act and practice. The school hopes that students can take this minor degree as another stimulant to their lives, and turn advanced knowledge into a driving force to promote the progress of the country and society.

Finally, Wu Wenqing, Deputy Dean of Xuanhuai School, introduced the training program and characteristic courses of the minor degree in Business Administration (Innovation and Entrepreneurship) to the students, and wished the students to realize their expectations in their future study and life and become outstanding talents with global vision, innovative spirit and practical ability.
