On the Lantern Festival (February 15), Cao Xuetao, the president of Nankai University and academician of the CAE, visited Tianjin University (TJU) together with the delegation of NKU, which included Xu Jingjun (executive vice president), Chen Jun (vice president and academician of the CAS), Wang Xinsheng (vice president), and representatives from Office of the President, Teaching Affairs Office, Strategic Development Department, Science and Technology Department, Department for Humanities and Social Sciences research administration.
The NKU delegation visited the Laboratory of Synthetic Biology, Laboratory of Micro/Nano Manufacturing Technology, and Academy of Medical Engineering and Translational Medicine of Tianjin University. A symposium was held in Science Library, Weijin Road Campus. Wang Shuxin, the deputy secretary of the Party Standing Committee and academician of the CAE, chaired the meeting. Jin Donghan, the president of Tianjin University and academician of the CAE, attended, along with Yuan Yingjin (vice president and academician of the CAS), Gong Jinlong (vice president), and main directors of Office of the Party Committee, Office of the President, Office of Strategic Planning, Office of Academic Affairs, Graduate School, Office of Science and Technology, Office of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Jin Donghan extended a warm welcome to Cao Xuetao and the NKU delegation. “NKU and TJU have developed a good-neighborly relationship and supported each other since 1952 for 70 years,” Jin said, “The two universities have forged a lasting friendship in the long-term process of running the university, and have achieved fruitful results together in scientific and technological innovation, talent training and other aspects. For example, the two universities jointly established the Co-innovation Center of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Tianjin; a total of 49 scientific research projects have been conducted together in the past five years; undergraduate majors have been jointly set up for 20 years; minor majors and more than 90 elective courses are available for students from both universities; based on the support from NKU and TJU, Haihe Laboratory of Sustainable Chemical Transformations was inaugurated on November 29, 2021.” Jin also pointed out that the two universities have developed successful partnership as well as the strong desire for further cooperation, he hopes to seize the opportunity of high-quality development of higher education in the new era and embark on a new journey of deepening cooperation between the two universities.
Cao Xuetao pointed out that TJU and NKU both have built their own characteristics and strengths throughout their renowned history of more than 100 years. “The purpose of this visit is to learn from the advanced experience of TJU and to accurately promote the cooperation between the two universities in the future,” Cao said, “TJU is a star performer in engineering, while NKU boasts sciences and humanities. The two universities complement each other, laying a natural foundation for win-win cooperation. As two universities next door to each other, they enable teachers and students to exchange thoughts frequently and have launched practical cooperation.” Cao hopes that the two universities summarize their experience, strengthen top-level design, explore the unique cooperation mode, so as to achieve integrated development and deepen cooperation in raising new resources. He sincerely wishes that the friendship between TJU and NKU can last forever as they bring the cooperation to a new height every day.
More than half of the representatives of the two universities at the symposium once studied at TJU and NKU. When talking about the profound friendship between the two universities, memories were recalled and eager anticipation for the future vibrated. In the past, the “Tiannan Street” witnessed the hustle and bustle of TJU and NKU, and now the Building of Co-experiment becomes another bastion of joint development; once the two universities worked together to apply for projects, and now they continue to cooperate in research and development for the construction of the new era. Attendees said that TJU and NKU have developed a close friendship, providing perfect opportunities for cooperation. They hope that the two universities can strengthen top-level design, deepen cooperation in scientific and technological innovation, talent training, discipline construction and other aspects in the future, so as to find a new paradigm of cooperation between peer universities.
