On November 2, Fadjar Suhendra, chairman of the Indonesian Growth Steel Group and president of the India-China Economic and Cultural Cooperation Association, visited Tianjin University (TJU). Vice President Hu Wenping and Assistant Principal Zhang Lixin met with the delegation at TJU Weijin Road campus.
Hu Wenping welcomed the delegation’s visit, with a detailed introduction of Tianjin University’s history and international development. He also illustrated that Indonesia is not only a significant country in the “Belt and Road” initiative, but also an important partner for conducting international cooperation and recruiting outstanding international students. Tianjin University is willing to boost the student recruitment in ASEAN countries, especially in Indonesia, cultivating more illustrious international talents to promote the local economic and social development.
Fadjar Suhendra expressed his gratitude for the warm reception. After introducing the Indonesian Chinese society and the status quo of Growth Steel Group, he emphatically shared the development of Indonesian Chinese Language School in more than half a century. He said that Growth Steel Group is willing to send more extraordinary Indonesian students to the first modern university in China, Tianjin University, and hopes to conduct in-depth cooperation in many fields such as scientific research.
During the meeting at the School of International Education, Li Qiang demonstrated the history and the current development of Tianjin University’s international education in China. Jin Xuan highlighted the advantages in the teaching of Chinese traditional culture and educational technology. The two sides reached a preliminary cooperation agreement in jointly promoting overseas Chinese talents cultivation.
During the visit, the delegation also visited the University History Museum.
It is reported that the Indonesian Growth Steel Group was jointly founded by Fadjar Suhendra and his father in 1969. By 2013, the group has developed into a modern enterprise, specializing in steel manufacturing and covering multiple fields such as biomass power generation, coking and cement. It created many firsts in Indonesia. Mr. Su has actively promoting the development of Chinese language education in Indonesia, supported the establishment of Asia International Friendship College in Medan 2008, and invested in the restoration of Chongwen Middle and Primary School in Medan 2011.
