Recently, the National Conference on Textbook and the First National Commendation Meeting for Textbook Development were held in Beijing. Sun Chunlan, China's vice premier and director of the National Textbook Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Yang Xianjin, secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin University (TJU), and Yu Daoyin, winner of the first prize of National Excellent Textbook Award, attended the conference in Tianjin.

The conference summarized the achievements in teaching materials since 2012 in Chinese higher education, and announced winners of the first National Award for Textbook Development. TJU has won an award for National Advanced Individual for Textbook Development, and five National Excellent Textbook Awards, including two first prizes and three second prizes. The number of awards ranks among the top in the country, first in Tianjin.

The National Award for Textbook Development is the highest award in the textbook field. It is an important system for reviewing and displaying the achievements of textbook development in talent training, and promoting the world-class textbook system with Chinese characteristics. There are four Special Prizes and 80 First Prizes in the higher education category in the first National Award for Textbook Development.

In recent years, TJU has fully implemented General Secretary Xi Jinping's instruction of “textbook development should reflect the will of the country and is the prerogative of the country”, and dedicated to build a world-class textbook system with Chinese characteristics and TJU nature, so as to cultivate students who are equipped with moral grounding, intellectual and physical ability, aesthetic sensibility and work skills, and are well-prepared to join the socialist cause.

The university has established a leading group for textbook development and management, and revised Management Measures of Textbooks in Tianjin University, achieving the whole chain management of textbook planning, compilation, review, selection and supervision. TJU also formulated a textbook development plan for the 14th Five-year Plan, set up special funds for textbook development and cooperated with presses to build a textbook system of TJU brand.

During the "14th Five-year Plan" period, the university will continue to carry out the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on teaching materials, keep in mind the original mission of educating people for the Party and the country, and strive to create more high-quality teaching materials. The university will make new and greater contributions to accelerating the modernization of education, building China into a powerful country in education, and training the young generation to shoulder the great task of national rejuvenation.
