TJU Team Stands Out in Mapping Tech Competition

Tianjin University won 18 awards, including 4 first prizes (3 for group and 1 for individual), 9 second prizes and 5 third prizes in the 14th National Contest on Innovation of Advanced Mapping Technology and Product Information Modeling for College Students, marking the university’s best achievement since its participation in the competition.

The competition was held at Southwest Jiaotong University from July 24 to 26, 2021. It attracted 6,743 contestants from 551 universities nationwide to attend.

Comprising five competing tracks including compass-and-straightedge construction, computer 3D modeling, basic knowledge of graphics, lightweight design and 3D printing, the contest was organized in a hybrid mode combining virtual and in-person components.

TJU team consisted of 67 students from different colleges and schools who had prepared for the competition for six months since the last winter holiday. Fifteen students from the School of Mechanical Engineering, Medical College and the School of Electrical and Information Engineering were promoted to participate in the national final after two preliminaries under the supervision of Xu Jian, Yu Hongbo, Jiang Shan and An Weijin. Chen Hao, the first prize winner of last competition, actively shared his experience and gave help.

The competition aims to accelerate the cultivation of top-notch talents in basic disciplines, encourage students to be innovative, and upgrade their practical ability. The increasing number of participants and grade progress have shown the achievements of educational and teaching reform of Engineering Graphics. Taking this contest as an opportunity, Tianjin University will further adapt to the rapid development of digital technology in teaching, and improve the core technology competitiveness of China.
