Tianjin University is the oldest institution of higher education in the modern history of China. Founded in 1895 as Peiyang University, it marked its 126th anniversary on October 2, 2021.

Tianjin University is a National Key University under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education, and is among the first batch of Chinese universities to participate in the country’s construction plan of world-class universities and first-class disciplines.

Tianjin University’s 126-year history is the epitome of the progress of modern Chinese higher education, embodying the Chinese people’s indomitability through challenging times.

During its growth spanning three centuries, Tianjin University has been a pioneer in several fields, from the first aero engine in China to the first Hydraulics Laboratory established in China.

The 126-year-old university not only commemorated its rich history and cherished traditions on its birthday, but also expressed a strong wish to march into an innovation-led promising future.

Up to now, the university has nurtured over 300,000 talents.
