[Graduates] Wang Fei: to Develop ‘Hard Power’

 Campus

Wang Fei from the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology is one of the hundred in the “Representative List of National Scholarship Winners for Undergraduates and Junior College Students” who were selected from 60,000 candidates nationwide. People’s Daily thus introduced her: Wang Fei, who was admitted into Tianjin University’s School of Chemical Engineering and Technology in 2017, won the national scholarship three times, the grand prize in the National College Students Chemical Design Competition, the first prize in the National Mathematics Competition for College Students and other prizes. Moreover, she was invited to attend the Student Forum of the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China, and had a paper published on a Q1 journal.

Diligent in learning

Wang regarded learning as a battle against herself and tried to push herself to better performance. It is her diligence and rigorousness that has helped her maintain the top scores in academic study and won the national scholarship for three years in a row. Wang believed that the willingness to study is of paramount importance, “As long as you have a firm objective and keep striving for it, you efforts will yield fruitful outcomes no matter what methods you choose.”

When people first meet Wang, they will inevitably be drawn to her by her sweet and beautiful appearance. “No one will be unhappy about being beautiful,” Wang laughed, but she also realized that good looks bring both advantages and prejudices, just like “every coin has two sides”. “Beauty will inevitably pass away as time goes by, while professional competence and refined ability is the ‘hard power’ you can always rely on.” With a vision of a bright future and profound knowledge, she dedicates herself to learning amid ups and downs and eventually reaps a bumper harvest.

Unswerving in research

Another important part of Wang Fei’s college life was devoted to scientific researches on energy. Interested in fuel cells, she participated in a project called “perovskite anodes for A-site-ordered solid oxide fuel cells” and led a program to explore the practical applications of lithium ion battery anode. Thanks to this episode, Wang ramped up enough knowledge and experience to attend the National Power Battery Innovation Competition for College Students, and her team has become the eight superior groups out of 130 competing groups.

Wang Fei also represented her school and participated in the National College Students Chemical Design Competition, a top chemical event. During the six months of preparation, she used to return to the dormitory at two am. , and then head to the laboratory at 9 am. The project was so complicated and stressful that she lingered on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Nevertheless, even if she wrote the paper with tears rolling down her cheeks, Wang has never thought of giving up because of her longing for excellence and pride. As an old saying goes, “Where there is a will, there is a way.” At last, her team won the grand prizes in both the National Final and the North China Games. Responsibility, dream and persistence have also become part of her DNA.

Gravels in clam are honed into pearls through pains. Following her original aspiration, Wang buries herself in scientific researches, overcomes all obstacles, and delves into the world of chemistry and engineering. After graduation , she will continue her researches and pursue her master’s and PhD degrees in Tsinghua University. “Scientific research is where my interests lie,” Wang observed. The world is her oyster.

Persistent in sports

Wang ran 1,500 meters every day to prepare for school sports day in senior high school, which rewarded her physical fitness and a sense of accomplishment. After entering the university, she joined the school badminton team and won many competition.

“Playing badminton is my way of relaxation. It kind of drives my daily pressures and worries away and offers me a peaceful mind to get to know myself better,” said Wang. She deems sport as a temporary utopia where people will be free from stress and work.

Active in voluntary work

Wang Fei is a person who knows how to share and be grateful. “I remember every detail of how I have been helped in hard times and in return, I want to do my share in spreading love and kindness to more people,” Wang noted.

After the pandemic broke out and the school was shut down, Wang Fei volunteered to become an assistant teacher and provided academic aids to students in need. She would organize online learning seminars also shared her course notes and relevant materials with her juniors.

She was also an active participant in social practices whether as a voluntary teacher in remote countrysides helping local students learn cutting-edge knowledge, or as a university promoter introducing TJU to more people.
